The third highly anticipated novel in the sexy Dive Bar series from New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott!

Love isn't always NEAT...

Bartender and all round bad boy, Eric Collins, has come to a crossroads. It's time to take life seriously and maybe even attempt to settle down. If only the person he was hoping to settle down with didn't turn out to be pregnant.
Starting over in a small town, Jean is determined to turn her wild lifestyle around and be the kind of mother she always wished she'd had. Since local bar owner and all round hottie, Eric, is now determined to steer clear of her pregnant self, it should be easy. When she goes into labor during a snowstorm and her car slides on some ice, however, it's Eric who comes to the rescue.
There seems to be a bond between them now, but is it enough? And can Eric give up his manwhore ways to be the man Jean needs?

Meh. I generally like instalove, but there was no explanation of what the attraction was here. You have this certified fuckboy, well into his 30's and happily bed-hopping, and he sees one woman and everything changes instantaneously. It does not track The only thing that distinguished this woman from the scads of others was a baby, and so it felt like he got caught up in the parenting which is sweet but not super sexy. The writing was clunky and this is part of a series with relationships amongst a friend group, and though there is very understandable tension between Eric and Nell based on earlier occurrences in other books (which I will not spoil) she acted like a psychopath whenever she popped up in the book. Girl needs some serious therapy. Anyway, it was not unpleasant or anything, but it also was not what I look for in a romance. That along with the aforementioned poor writing, and the sort of paint-by-numbers storytelling puts this into below-average territory. Not unreadable by any means, but the weakest in the series IMO ( )

I gave this as much time as I was willing to. The MC was an ass. The dialogue seemed a bit stilted. The nail in the coffin was when these Americans living in Idaho referred to "cotton wool" and used "fortnight" in a sentence. Checked the author's bio & see she's Australian. I expect this sort of mistake in fanfic, but not in a book that's traditionally published. ( )

This was completely Eric’s story and his POV which was interesting because the other books were from the heroines’. I have to say that his internal monologue was hilarious, and it was good to see how much he grew considering I wasn’t sure he could be redeemed after the first two books. I enjoyed this but felt we didn’t really get much of Jean even though she was the heroine; her and baby Ada were great, but Eric kind of took over the book completely (also was Mal this annoying in his own book?—I can’t remember). Will I finish? Well, that's a big 'ol TBD. There's something nice about that idea since I am in 64% or so...but there's something unpalatable too...cause I'm so bored. And this story is, frankly, stupid.

I might be answering my own question here.

Everyone around Eric is a dick to Eric. I have kind of low tolerance for even those closest to us thinking they know exactly who we are and taking that as entitlement to be unkind. And that's what we have here. Besides that, Eric's not particularly interesting. He's shallow. Okay, fine. He's sexy, sure if you say so, but I say that hair has got to go cause I am not picturing anything but stringy long ass hair on my bartender. (AND I LIKE long hair. Hello, hair bands -> alternative/grunge. I even like it stringy.) But, like, Eric doesn't even get a second glance for my book boyfriend shelf. Because dull guys (sure he's kind of amusing) don't do it for me. I'd rather he a jackass. *Throws up hands*

I've become distracted. Where was I? Oh, no big if Eric's kind of dull, but it's all from his POV of view and Jean is some weird, young accidentally pregnant cardboard cutout who, for the life of me, I cannot invest in to understand. Or if I do, I come to same bitchy conclusion that Jean is just your run-of-the-mill idiot.
1. She moved across the country for an internet pregnant friend. (I 'love' you all, but I'll not be moving so we can hold hands and read books anytime soon. Maybe there's a bit more going on here, but see above where I said "I don't care" I don't. And if there's certain situations for her backstory...it actually makes her...more of an idiot!
2. She help a drunk, virtual stranger into his apartment XX months pregnant. There's a lot of reasons you don't stop for the drunk guy in the hallway. I don't stop to give men directions on my runs. "I'm sorry I can't stop." We don't need to take care of them. In fact, let's not. (I do feel like a bitch sometimes. One day it was really cold. But, that's my policy. I don't change it). Obviously you don't do this not pregnant either but...
3. A lot of other things. I just don't buy her. I can't list them anymore. There's too many.

But the final straw for me was when I really couldn't understand her. Sure, do I have some control issues? Maybe. What exactly is this woman's plan. I don't understand her plan. She's caring for an infant, and I heard nothing of her plan. I am starting to think she fell into her plan: Eric. Cause her only plan was running away from her parents who wanted her to give the baby up for adoption. To her internet friend. Anyway, babe's 2? months old, she decides she misses sex. I mean, I wasn't 22 when I had my babies, but I was human. I think to feel human...you know try to jump back in the saddle. not that I'm judging by any stretch (GOOD for you, everyone, whatever your gig is!) but the idea of taking a shower is a lot of after childbirth and giving up that time where something could happen...layer foreplay (ahem, necessary post-birth, these are just facts), expectations, your own changes it was hard enough for me with a committed, loving relationship....WHO HAS THE TIME? and I mean, she'd have a lot of stress...cause from what I can tell she's entirely plan-free for her and her child's life. So obviously the baby feels like a stupid prop to make Eric seems like a legit human. I don't know. I guess I don't care!

but yes, let's sign up for the friends-with-benefits thing. I mean, I really truly mean this, as a single mother...more power to you if you can find the time and desire when your child is just turning the corner out of the newborn stage. I, frankly, just feel like I'd probably fall in love with a billionaire first. THAT's how unrealistic I find this. I know I'm reading romance. And sometimes the fantasy should feel like fantasy. This one just feels weird. Also, I'm neurotic and had trouble leaving my kids-with anyone... But, obviously Jean is some kind of 22 year old natural, just doing it on her own, looking for sex, not worried about who is watching the baby.

Really sorry that this ended up in your feed....ahem. I just had a feeling about this one. And it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Unfortunately, a few weak performances later and it's time for Kylie Scott to enjoy my back burner. ( )

DNF@11%

I fucking hate the main character with a passion unholy. There is nothing redeemable about him. He is just a selfish asshole. There is zero story in that 11% besides his WHINING (FUCKING WHINING, Y'ALL! NONSTOP WHINING) that people think he is an asshole and hitting a girl that is pregnant and being angry that nothing goes his way.

Seriously, this is awful. ( )
