A bewilderingly original take on the oft-used "last people on the planet" narrative. A squad of Canadian soldiers emerges from a bunker to learn that the world has been transformed into an enormous maze, the walls of which are seemingly composed of all the manufactured products in the world. Their search for answers could easily turn into a slog but Panhuyzen keeps the tale flowing through vivid descriptions and characters worthy of survival.
A greatly entertaining read, with a scenario ripe for an HBO limited series. ( )
