Juan Belmonte, un ex-guerillero chilien réfugié en Allemagne est contraint par un assureur à partir à la recherche d'un trésor volé par les nazis pendant la guerre et caché en Patagonie. Il se trouvera en compétition dans sa quête avec un ex-membre de la Stasi est-allemande.
A la fin du livre il ira retrouver sa fille qu'il avait du abandonner au Chili en fuyant la dictature de Pinochet, une aventure pour laquelle il se sent bien plus désarmé.

Un bon policier, toujours aussi agréable à lire, avec l'humanité caractéristique de L. Sepulveda. (

This has nothing in common with "The Old Man Who Read Love Stories." Every character is either a tough as nails mercenary, a complete push over or a corrupt and powerful overlord. From start to finish it feels like a horrible screenplay; you wouldn't guess that Sepulveda can tell a story with charm, innocence and memorable detail.When I retrieve my copy of the book, I'll add a few quotes to illustrate the "hard-boiled" internal monologue of the protagonist. That should be enough to put anyone off.The book also lacks any particularly Chilean flavor--just in case you thought it might be worth reading for that sort of reason. (

A dissilusioned professional revolutionary has found himself washed up in Berlin, working as a bouncer in a brothel. A bank needs him to go to Chile to retrieve 50 gold coins stolen from the nazis. This book is great, and reads like it should be a film. (
