I read this in ninth grade. Steinbeck is such great required reading. My mom still remembers when I read this book, that I came out of my room in tears when I was through. It was the first book that ever made me cry. The imagery and the characters have stuck with me ever since. Hated it. I really don't understand why he is such a celebrated author. This simple, beautifully written tale of friendship is one of my favorites. I can't read it often because it does make me cry. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

I'm glad I didn't have to read this at school. I wouldn't have liked it at all. It's full of little openings of deep themes, many of them about the complications of human relations and the use of power. I liked the play-like structure of the book with a clear scene separation and distinct scenery for each. The description of nature is very "calming".
I ought to digest this experience for a while and re-read the book shortly. (
