Loved it as a girl, was driven crazy just now by its 18th-c moralizing for children and the boys' urge to shoot every new animal they encountered. ( )

The Swiss Family Robinson is about a family that shipwrecks on an Edenlike island. Thier shipwreck and the rest of the crew takes the boats and leave. This book is very interesting, but it gets boring after a while. ( )

Oh my land. Was this really good literature, ever? This was dull, dry, unrealistic, and so boring. The story only vaguely resembles the movie, which I loved. If this weren't a book my mom had as a kid, I would throw it away quickly. The story is repetitive (we found an unusual plant/animal that could be used to make this vital thing that will help us survive) and pretty much nothing else ever happened. Not even the pirates! The father and sons had an obscure and unbelievable knowledge of random, rare plants and animals. And could identify them pretty much at-sight. It was ludicrous. And the writing was very dull. The dialog was so formal between family members, that while it may have been like that back in the day, it made it hard to imagine this family even were close. I am so glad that children have much better and more exciting literature to read today. ( )

Imagine living in a tree house! This family does: they work hard to survive but along the way they have fun together and have lots of adventures.

When a family of six is shipwrecked on a deserted island they must use their ingenuity to survive. I read this book as an adult and loved it. I passed it on to my 9 year old and he loved it too. It's a great adventure story that shows the importance of using what you have to live the life you are given. I highly recommend it for all ages. ( )
