Harry Mulisch's famous book De Aanslag (The Assault) looks at the German occupation of Holland and its consequences through the eyes of a narrator who was a child during the war.

Harry Mulisch De aanslag or Het stenen bruidsbed ... zo'n geniaal boek lees ik maar zelden. Iets vergelijkbaars overkwam me met De stad der blinden van José Saramago. De aanslag - ook geniaal trouwens.
Maar goed, dit gaat over de allerslechtste boeken, niet de allerbeste. Superslecht is De herfst zal schitterend zijn van Jan Siebel ... Désolée que tu n' es pas aimé Harry Mulisch qui est un de mes favoris. A l'occasion tu peux lire L'attentat qui commence pendant la guerre à Haarlem et qui ce poursuit quelques années plus tard avec le retour d'un des témoins d'un meurtre.

Wat een draak van een boek is dat. De Aanslag van Harry Mulish Ik vond en vind het een monumentale verspilling van papier. ... van Richard Bachman (Stephen King) aan het lezen en ik ben onderweg in de auto bezig met het luisterboek De aanslag van Harry Mulisch. ... Corrie Ten Boom is focused and clear. And I'm a sucker for mystical elements in a book. Another book on that time period De Aanslag is stark and bleak indeed, because there is no religious element to it.
Heart of Darkness is one of my all time favorites! I used to work at a company that.. ... I read The Assault by Harry Mulisch after someone here on LT mentioned it, and I think it is one of the most memorable books I've read. I loved how Mulisch presented a straight story line, and then introducing a very thought-provoking moral twist at the end. De Aanslag is definitely worth a look, although only a couple of chapters are actually set in Amsterdam (1956 and 1981). The most memorable section is probably the opening part, which is set in Haarlem.
(I haven't had the courage to attempt De ontdekking van de hemel yet, I'm sure I will ... ... and then pressing (others) to get a short list of full names. LT doesn't seem to really appreciate Mulisch. I got the Assault to work once, and now I just got it to work again. But the top one in this message is wrong, and I can't correct it, perhaps due to activity of the LT server.
