Heidi chronicals the experinces of a little girl in a specific time and place, yet those experiences have universal appeal. odkins | Oct 4, 2009 | Every little girl who read this book at an early age can identify with the delightful orphan who trudges up the mountain to be rebuffed by the old grandfather, who was in time won over by her charm and kindness. She is a virtual "Pollyana" when she goes to the city to help the poor sick girl and finally brings her to the mountain for a cure. Heidi is the perfect heroine and every little girl sees herself in this role. It is a wonderful book, probably best read before the role is taken over by Shirley Temple in the movie.
