The first book I read by Piers Anthony and I was hooked - a great mix of fantasy and sci-fi, an easy fun read. ( )

This was my favorite series as a young adult. The chapters switch from Fantasy to Science fiction in such a way that combines the best of both worlds. ( )

This was another novel concept by Anthony. The first book or two were great, but he took the series further than I wanted. This one is definitely re-readable, the 2d & 3d are OK, but after that I couldn't get into them any more. The world is in the far future, but one man finds he can slip from his ultra modern world into a nearby fantasy world since the death of his counterpart in the other dimension. He winds up dealing with all the problems two people have all by himself. Funny, fast read. Very engaging. ( )

This was a lot of fun for me. Piers Anthony is kind of a weird guy and seems to feel the need to put a pretty severe twist on everything. I had very nearly decided to quit reading his stuff all together because of this, but this book changed my mind. The worst part of this one is that for some bizarre reason, he separates the "serfs" and "citizens" by allowing citizens to wear clothes but serfs must go nude. This supplys plenty of titillating descriptions of what happens when people perform daily activities in the nude, but that is about the worst of it. Thankfully. So I enjoyed it and like the characters. His sense of place is not highly developed, he doesn't provide a lot of detail on landscape and surroundings, but hey, it aint literature! Perfect for reading while I'm on the stairmaster! ( )

Fairly weak start of a series. Not as funny as the Xanth novels. ( )

Descrição do livro

Split Infinity is the first book in Piers Anthony's Apprentice Adept series. Here two worlds exist side by side: Proton and Phaze. Proton is a science fiction world, where everything works in a logical and scientific manner. Phaze is a fantasy world similar to Anthony's Xanth in that there's no such thing as science--it's all done with magic! The wild plot involves a young adventurer named Stiles who lives in Proton and learns that his "double" in Phaze has been murdered. To solve his own demise, Stiles must travel between the two realities, each abounding with the expected confusions and unexpected plot twists for which Anthony is famous. An artful blending of SF and fantasy clichés and situations, Split Infinity shows Piers Anthony at the top of his ingenious game(s). --Stanley Wiater
