I was highly dissapointe in this book, especially since it was chosen as a gateway novel. Though it had a great story line, the characters and their emotions didn't seem very real. I think it could have been written a lot better and had a better chance at capturing my attention and approval. ( )

WOW....it's been a long time since I reviewed a book. I've read many of the books I'm suppose to review it's just that I haven't had time and I've been lazy. So I've returned with a book that I absolutely adore and recommend to anyone. All the books I've promised to review are pretty much finished and will be up this week. Also the Suite Scarlett Giveaway ends Mondays, so if you want to enter then a leave a comment on that post. It will end at midnight Canadian Central time. Anyways onto the review.
So I really, really loved this book. I don't have any complaints, really. I mean it was fast paced *I read it in less then 24 hours*, how realistic character *mostly*, and it was a fabulous modern telling of Beauty And The Beast.By the way Beauty And The Beast is my favorite fairy tale/Disney Movie. Lately I've been addicted to Disney fairy tale films. My current crave is Beauty and The Beast, so recently I've been reading a lot of adaptations of the fairy tale and this is my favorite *even though it's not a direct adaptation*. I mean the beast, aka Kyle, is very emotional character and his feelings the readers will feel. The author make sure of that. Also we also have felt loneliness at one time or another and we can relate to that. Anyways what I'm trying to say is it was a awesome book, I loved it, and I hope you read it. The only real complaint I have about it is I thought the conflict in the ending with the antagonist *if you want to call that guy that* was too short, I mean like a page and half short. I mean even the Disney film had a better fight then that. I just wish their was more to it then that simple thing the author put. Other then that the book was enjoyable, yes some of the plot twist were obvious but oh well it was ok. The ending was ok, I'm not sure. It was romantic, but I don't know if I wanted it to end that way. I've seen other authors, mostly my favorite authors, do this and I kind of got upset over it. But yah, oh-well again. It's a awesome book and I recommend it to anyway. But please don't go in reading this is 100% like Beauty and the Beast because it's not. It's totally different with some similarities, but I promise it will be worth your while. Also they're making a movie of it, it will come out July 2010, starring: Alex Pettyfer *As Kyle, aka the Beast*, Vanessa Hudgens as Linda *aka the beauty*, Mary-Kate Olsen *as Kendra, the witch*. First off I don't know what Vanessa Hudgens and Mary-Kate are doing in this movie, I don't understand that. Mary-Kate looks nothing as Kendra is portrayed in the film though somehow odly I can imagine her as Kendra. Vanessa Hudgens I can picture as the ordinary type of girl, kind of, though she looks nothing like Linda *same as the kendra thing*. Linda has orange hair and green eyes whereas Vanessa is keeping her brown hair with brown eyes. No resemblance. OH-WELL , I'm excited though. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO COME OUT IN 2010. I haven't even thought about grade 11 yet. I also think Alex will make a great beast, yay. Anynways they did a interview on ET about it and I will have you know this interview is kind of what made me check it out. Ok here it is, enjoy: ( )

This is a modern take of Beauty and the Beast. The story is told through the eyes of Kyle Kingsbury, the Beast. This books is a rather quick read, although in the first half of the book, readers may know who Beauty is, but she's barely in the Beast's life. He can see her by using the enchanted mirror, but the first half is more about him dealing with his curse and his growth as a character from the transformation.

There are many versions of Beauty and the Beast, although Disney's version is probably the most popular one. It's no surprise that Beastly has its own twists to the popular tale. One of them is having the enchantress/witch play a more significant role in the story than just having them disappear after having laid the curse, which I do appreciate.

It takes a while after the transformation for Kyle to understand what real beauty is. I like how roses play a crucial part in the story, although I still find it a little hard to believe that even boys can appreciate the beauty of a rose, and then want to build a whole greenhouse to see them grow and wither all year round. On second thought, anything is possible, even love.

What intrigue me is that at some point, he resorts to running on all fours, making him probably the most beast-like in appearance during a time that could be argued to be one of which made him the most human of all.

Every now and then are chatting sessions in the book where characters from other popular transformation tales (e.g.: The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog) share their story about their particular situation and their own transformation. I find these pages refreshing and quite fun to read.

All in all, I like this story of Beauty and the Beast. I do have something to say about the cover: it could've been better. ( )

Set in modern NYC - where anything can happen - Kyle Kingsbury is Mr. Popular. He's handsome, rich and can get any girl he wants. But Kyle is spoiled, selfish and unkind. As a prank he spurns a gothic chick who turns out to be a witch(!) who curses him to become as ugly on the outside as he is on the inside. Turned into a beast, his only chance to return to his human form is for him to find a girl who he can love and will love him (in beast form) before two years are up. Feeling hopeless after being spurned by his TV perfect father, Kyle encloses himself in a Brooklyn home with only a rose garden, tutor and housemaid as companions. The best part of this book is that Kyle is a 21st Century teenager with all sorts of technology at his fingertips. Prefacing each section are chatroom logs that Kyle joins as a type of online support group for people who have been changed by magic. There he meets up with the frog prince and the little mermaid -- their conversations had me cracking up and wishing I could read their stories as well. I enjoyed this new take as it details Kyle's transformation into a beast instead of solely from Beauty's perspective after the Beast has already been transformed. Such a different take on a classic story that I thoroughly enjoyed. ( )

I heard mixed opinions on this book from two people I trust. I don't remember who liked it but I did. The Beast is a teen boy in New York who is vain and cruel. After he is transformed into a beast, his father ships him off to another house with a housekeeper and a tutor. True to the tale, he stakes his hopes on a girl who doesn't know who he really is. Good tale. ( )

Beastly

Descrição do livro

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0060874163, Hardcover)

I am a beast.

A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog but a horrible new creature who walks upright—a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster.

You think I'm talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It's no deformity, no disease. And I'll stay this way forever—ruined—unless I can break the spell.

Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she turn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I'll tell you. I'll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and the perfect life. And then, I'll tell you how I became perfectly . . . beastly.
