Interesting book with interviews that Marilyn Monroe's death was not suicide but murder. The tapes the title refers to are tapes Monroe made right before her death where she discussed her path forward. She was positive in the tapes and did not sound like someone on the verge of suicide. She had negotiated a new deal with the studio at a higher salary and was to report back on the film she had previously been fired from. The author's theory is that Monroe was murdered by the CIA who, knowing she had had relationships with both JFK and RFK, wanted to bring both down for their refusal to provide assistance to CIA staff during the Bay of Pigs invasion. While it sounds reasonable, the author also contends that Monroe's house was not only bugged by the CIA but also by the FBI and Jimmy Hoffa, all who wanted info on the Kennedy's. The thing is, long after Monroe's death when the new owner had a roof leak, the repairman found the bugging devices in the attic. It would seem to me that these groups would have removed the "evidence" after Monroe's death and would not leave it behind. I do believe Monroe's death was indeed suspicious and that many, including her doctors, housekeeper, and Peter Lawford, knew more than they ever told. ( )
