Dave Eggers always seems to inspire grand admiration or vindictive dislike when discussed on the hipster online book community I follow. I have to say I feel neither. I enjoyed AHWOSG, and I enjoyed this book. I find that he tells interesting stories, his narration is engaging, but I am not brought to any heights of passion, postive or negative. I would definitely recommend it for people who are looking for an interesting story that will pass the time. I did find that the plot of this book stuck in my head more than it did with AHWOSG. ( )I liked this novel a lot, actually, even though every time I hear someone mention it they dis it. I mainly just like the plot outline: the main character falls into a not-so-big sum of money and decides to pretty much literally throw it away in eastern Europe. inventive and struck a chord with me, though there's not as much style to it as other Eggers. I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit "Catcher in the Rye goes on Holiday" and now that I've seen Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited 3 or 4 years later, I'd say they are similar in tone. A book about friendship, grief, life, and imagination, this is a whirlwind journey across countries in the company of two unique (and yet believable) twenty-somethings who are just beginning to come to grips with the world around them. Eggers delivers on perfect dialogue, one moment humorous and one moment heartbreaking, with believable and realistic affections and emotions. Some may read this, and say that they're too off the wall to be real, but I'd vouch that no, these characters are right off the street of contemporary America, no more lost or centered than plenty of people I've known, with thoughts that are not more crazy, but are delivered here perfectly and realistically. This isn't the traditional novel--it comes together like a slowly building mystery that you never realized was a mystery, and it drives at every motion you have along the way. This book may not be for everyone, but I can't recommend it highly enough (to anyone) if you want a solid fast-moving read that's worth your while, if you allow it to make you think about what you're reading and take it seriously (when it asks you to) for even a moment. One of the best books I have EVER read. Dave Eggers can do no wrong. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
