Another good concept killed by Spider's insistence on showcasing his own cleverness. Reading the original story (titled Mindkiller) was a very good experience for me, but this re-work makes all the mistakes of a bad movie sequel.

The second half of the book (the "sequelization section" if you will) made me want to write an alternate version where the main character is horribly tortured and dismembered because all of his pompous theorizing turns out to be dead wrong on most counts.

Not a good sign when you want to kill the hero just for being so arrogant. Even Dr. Who is wrong some of the time, for chrissakes. ( )
