... over flowing with books to be read, might try and finish Twilight series only books 3 +4 to go??? if not might re read Wicked and start the sequel Son of a Witch. Anyone know of a book club I could join???

Oh! And thanks for making me not feel bad about Wicked. I honestly wanted to like that book, but it just ain't happening. At least for me.

just to add my thoughts on the Wicked scush... I think Maguire really lost me when they all went to that fetish club. I just never did recover after that. #164 ShannonMDE Welcome to the Austen Club :-) I've read Pride and Prejudice a few times in my life, but have been ...

... All that time clock stuff, just ignore it and enjoy the rest. (At least thats what I did)" EXACTLY how I felt. Wicked is one of my all-time favorites, but where the book really takes off is when Elphaba and Glinda are at university. I, too, loved Prodigal Summer. However, I ...

I loved the Larsson books, hated and put down The Mistress of the Art of Death and can't even imagine picking up Wicked although it's on my shelves. Plus I really disliked my November ER book, The Silent Governess. Everybody else will probably love it. To each her/his own. Meanwhile, I'm ...

>128 I started my mother's copy of Wicked in January, set it aside after about an hour's reading, and have yet to care to pick it back up.

... book. ON-the-other-hand, there are times that I don't like a book that others rave about. Right now I am struggling with Wicked. My book discussion group is reading it and my sister and niece are absolutely in love with it. (They collect Wicked stuff) I just don't understand why anybody ...

11. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. 12. The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffeneggar.

... and one from the September tbr stack. I'm not sure which one that will be; Black Swan Green, The Red Tent and Wicked are beckoning me, and so are a couple of children's books. At the same time, though, I'm getting some pretty strong calls from Olive Kitteridge, 2 more Louise Penn ...

Here are mine, in the order I read them: Taran Wanderer by Lloyd Alexander The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice Wicked by Gregory Maguire Lord of Emperors by Guy Gavriel Kay Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay Melusine by Sarah Monette The Virtu by Sarah Monette ...

I decided to put Wicked aside for awhile and read something I might actually like reading. (Although I am more than halfway through the book.) I went to the library and got lucky. I started reading the new Antony Beevor book D-Day. It is so good that I read 50 pages of it last night. ...

I'm still struggling through Wicked. I know others really liked it (my sister and my niece for starters) but I am having problems with it. I just find it dull. I read all the Oz books I could get my hands on when I was young, and loved those stories. But this one is just dull. Several ...

  1. Flatterland by Ian Stewart
  2. Wicked by Gregory Maguire
  3. Till We Have Faces by C. S. Lewis
  4. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard
  5. Grendel by John Gardner

I finished The Help this weekend and started Wicked. Both books are for my book club. I found The Help really disturbing. It was satisfying but disturbing because I suspect so much of it is based in reality. I also found the behavior of the women in the story a bit juvenile at best. I ...

... Love Elizabeth Gilbert 51.Fearless 14 by Janet Evanovich 52.Death in the Mountains by Lisa Clifford 53. Wicked by Gregory Maguire

Today I started Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West for my book discussion group. And am still listening to Vol. 2 of Octavian Nothing.

Tad, again we seem to be mirroring each other. I also read Wicked and wasn't overly impressed and have read no more. This one does look to be different and worth a try.

Referring back to your last thread... I've avoided Maguire. I tried Wicked but, while admitting it might be great as a musical (I didn't see it, but my kids loved it), it didn't catch me the way it seems to have caught so many. The other books he put out seemed to be much the same in nature, ...

... to add it manually, but then the correct cover came up after I did. It was very odd. And this was nothing at all like Wicked so if you didn't like that book, don't let it keep you from this one!

... to add it manually, but then the correct cover came up after I did. It was very odd. And this was nothing at all like Wicked so if you didn't like that book, don't let it keep you from this one!

... to work right now, but at least I figured out who Gregory Maguire is - I've never read him, but I've at least heard of Wicked

I'm reading Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, I'm only about 100 pages in, but so far I am enjoying it.

    10. A Morbid Taste for Bones completed! Now reading Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Macguire.

Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire. A sequal to Wicked.

... its good moments, but the most sympathetic character was the dog. Pondering what to read now. Still working my way thru Wicked and I'm gonna read through Ishiguro's Nocturnes. Might also pick up the old beat-up copy I have of The Ox-Bow Incident.

Finished up Wicked last week. I enjoyed it. It's so different from the musical, it's almost hard to remember one is based on the other. Started on The Lost Symbol this weekend. I haven't been able to get very far in yet. I swear my family doesn't want me to read. I'm on the computer? No ...

    >19 I have to say Wicked is pretty much the ONLY one of Gregory Maguire's books that I have enjoyed. I thought Son of a Witch was so-so, A Lion Among Men awful. And I haven't enjoyed any of his non-OZ books (I read Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and Mirror, Mirror).

I finished Wicked last week. I enjoyed it. I may try one of Maguire's other books in the future. I started The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown last night. If my husband's reaction to the book is any indicator it should be a fun read.

OK, that list was way too long! I've deleted it. If anyone wants the alphabetized list, tell me and I'll send it to you.

... a lot of fun, interesting scenarios, etc. Very easy to read and worth the time because they are so darned entertaining. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire - Not SF! But fantasy. Still, I always loved Ray Bradbury's writing, and this is one of ...

"He asked for a meal and a bath, which he got, and then he wanted to pay by giving me this book." Wicked by Gregory Maguire "And you're so very surprised?"

Indeed, #7, I too would be interested in how he feels about the various adaptations of his work - not only the Wicked musical, but also the TV movie Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. Of course, the latter may be too obscure.

As I mentioned, The Dysynni is just a little north of where I am, and I have been there often. Unsurprisingly I have visited the locations mentioned in this book, and I can see Tywyn from where I live. But rather than scan and post my photos, I have found some pictures of the locations on Flickr ...

A bit of an obvious one, but how does he feel about the alteration to the end of Wicked in the musical version? (Also want to say how much I loved Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister)

I have a last-minute interview with Gregory Maguire—author of Wicked, the upcoming Matchless: A Christmas Story (in this month's Early Reviewers if you want to request a copy), the upcoming The Next Queen of Heaven, and many others—coming up. Have a ...

... is Illuminated. So far, it seems alright, but I'm about 10 pages in. And the girlfriend has urged me to start Wicked... I've heard mixed things about Maguire. We'll see how it goes.

"Oh, those," said Galinda crudely. "Well, I don't see the problem." Wicked by Gregory Maguire "Perhaps now she is up to overseeing fifteen girls?"

Started Wicked last weekend and I'm about half way through it now. Saw the musical first and it piqued my interest in the book. Just like everyone said, they are very different. I'm treating them as separate works, they are so different, so I can enjoy them both. And I am enjoying the book this ...

... the matter--a say to me, and not each other or anyone else, as the spell goes--but I would like you to think about it." Wicked by Gregory Maguire "Don't you remember your nursery rhymes?"

I'm half way through Wicked now. I'm still enjoying it. As I keep reading I'm amazed at how the musical turned out, they are so different.

"Darlings, if I ever get like this, poison me, will you?" Wicked by Gregory Maguire "Who's man enough for the Philosophy Club tonight?"

I'm still working my way through Wicked. Not quite half way through so far.

"Please, I've had enough drama to last me the rest of my life," said Elphaba. Wicked by Gregory Maguire "Who is in charge here?"

"I am disinclined to know you." Wicked by Gregory Maguire "What were you doing with my broom?"

Wicked by Gregory Maguire 1. Where did you get this book? Barns & Noble 2. How much did it cost? $7.99 3. Why did you pick this book to read NOW? Saw the musical a few weeks ago and wanted to read the book it was based on. 4. How long has it been on your ...

#88 & 89 - I'm not too far into Wicked yet and I'm noticing the differences already. Even though the musical was based on the book, I'm going to try to treat them as two separate works. I was worried I may not like the book as much since I'd seen other people say that in reviews when they saw the ...

Yes, Wicked, the book is very different from "Wicked" the musical. I read the book first and kept complaining to myself as I watched the musical (which I love, too) about leaving things out or changing them! As for me, today I finished A Christmas Secret, which I started last night and knew ...

#38 - Wicked the book is VERY different from the musical. Be prepared. It's one of my all-time favorite books, but I've noticed that people who've seen the musical first seem to like the book less than the musical.

"I didn't mean to pelt you with it." Wicked by Gregory Maguire "How did you think to look for me here?"

"I already said it and I'm not saying it again," said Elphaba. Wicked by Gregory Maguire "Does she ask for me?"

"Turtle Heart is a glassblower," said Turtle Heart. Wicked by Gregory Maguire

I finally finished Blood of Elves. Good book, just been kept really busy at work this month. Next up, Wicked by Gregory Maguire.

I've just headed over to Oz in Wicked.

"I'm going to take my leave now while I'm still alive." Wicked by Gregory Maguire "You understand house rules?"

... though may be slightly disappointed as the book doesn't feature Geralt as much as you wish it would. Now I'm starting on Wicked by Gregory Maguire. I saw the musical a few weeks ago which prompted me to buy the book. It'll be interesting to see just how much they differ.

It's a good thing that I got Wesley Brown's book. I didn't like Wicked, never finished it, and would not probably try for Maguire's book next month. If you're early requesting MaGuire's book, Abby, you'll probably get it. By the way, how did you find out about this? I found it on Twitter ...

From AHS-Wolfy's library, I choose Wicked by Gregory Maguire. Have thought about reading this for a long time.

    8. Wicked by Gregory Maguire 9. Pride of Baghdad by Brian K. Vaughan 10. The Walking Dead, Book 1 by Robert Kirkman 11. Y: The Last Man, Book 1 by Brian K. Vaughan 12. Y: The Last Man, Book 2 by Brian K. Vaughan

Saw Wicked the musical Saturday night so naturally I had to pick up a copy of the book at Barns & Noble yesterday. I know they're supposed to be very different, but my curiosity has been piqued.

Anything Related to Myths, Legends, Fairy Tales, and Etcetera 1. Briar Rose by Jane Yolen 2. Wicked by Gregory Maguire 3. Beast by Donna Jo Napoli 4. The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly 5. Enchantment by Orson Scott Card 6. The Green Man by Ellen Datlow 7. The Wolf ...

Well, I can't resist a list. These are in no particular order. My 10 Favorite Books of 2009 (Thus Far) 1. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire 2. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger 3. Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami 4. ...

I am currently reading The Chronicles of Narnia, One Door Away from Heaven, and Wicked.

... Just no. I remember liking the idea of Series of Unfortunate Events but being bored by the books. I don't remember Wicked as a YA novel, but I thought it was incredibly choppy, and the attempts at decent characterization just got lost as the book went on. I have a vague recollection of ...

... to read 100 pages or so into something a little more light hearted before turning out the light tonight.... I'm thinking Wicked by Gregory Maguire, which I started but failed to finish earlier this year.

From Kimb's library I'd like to read Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.

I've finished Son of a Witch. I really wasn't all that impressed. I really did enjoy Wicked, so I can understand the pressure to produce a sequel. Heck, even this one ends begging a sequel as well. At the same time, not everything that was wildly successful should have a sequel. Some ...

I didn't have a problem getting through Wicked: I breezed through it in about three days and really liked it. Maybe it's because I've never had any sort of attachment to other versions of The Wizard of Oz, so I didn't have any expectations about this one.

I plodded through Wicked and in the end I liked the book but it was painful. I wouldn't read another Maguire book because of it.

Yea I read the Frank L. Baum original right before I read Wicked. The original takes maybe an hour or so to read and there are some differences between it and the movie.

#8 lorie: I'm the same way with Wicked, so you're not alone there!

... realism to supernatural stories. I am not sure why, probably because I can identify more with the situation! #97 I read Wicked a while ago but made the fatal mistake of not reading the original (plus I only had vague memories of the film). Suffice to say I didn't get most of it. It requires ...

Books 43 and 44 - Wicked and Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire I like how things that are accepted as a certain way when we are kids is turned around and thrown on it's head in a darker more adult way (well I like it when it is done right anyway). Wicked did a great job of explaining how the ...

... very interesting, but long and a little dry. I'll pick them up again one of these days. I've also tried twice to read Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and disliked it both times, so I gave up. It was one of those books I really wanted to like but didn't. Edited ...

... I am off to find a copy of the Lost City of Z. Expectations are high now, dear sir! I also have to dig up my copy of Wicked. We saw the musical in San Fran at the Orpheum and it was Amazing! I have already read it (and the sequel, which was not quite as good as the original) and want to ...

... and what the general idea was, but I found it way too disturbing and difficult to read. I am currently reading Wicked by Gregory Maguire and I must say, it's hard getting through that book. Every little detail is glorified into a whole paragraph. I don't know if I can finish it.

... Aprox. one chapter per episode. So that means at least 5 more seasons? Also, less than an hour left in listening to Wicked. I read it a few years ago and it didn't do much for me. The audio book didn't do much for me either. I'm hoping I like the stage show better since I will be seeing ...

... because of the recent vampire book suggestion thread. ;) Polly, have you read A Lion Among Men yet? I know you love Wicked, if not just the musical. Speaking of which, have you seen the member recommendations? :) James Patterson ...

I really disliked the book Wicked, but the musical is definitely worth seeing. I had a real blast!

I attempted to read Wicked before we saw the musical. I enjoyed the musical--something has to happen every couple of minutes when you only have your audience for two or three hours.

I got thru Wicked; I never felt compelled to read the sequels. It's not really one that I hated, but I sure didn't like it as much as the hoopla around it.

I couldn't get through Wicked. It was the reading equivalent of watching paint dry.

I have a question about Wicked: I just bought tickets for the musical -- do you recommend reading the book first? Thanks!

I also found Maguire smug. I found Wicked to be so disjointed and disloyal to its own characters... it was just strange writing.

... repulsively narrow-minded character. Also, sexism seems to be abounding in it. Though no one seems to notice? (Also, Wicked. Was Maguire trying to write a fantasy story, or really political porn? Because I felt terribly dirty while reading it. )

... boring and dumb and felt like the author was just shoving politics in my face instead of telling a story. I also hated Wicked by Gregory Maguire. How about The Looking Glass Wars? I'll probably have to go reread Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West to be fair, since I haven't read it since it came out, but I wound up enjoying this retold fairy tale even more than Maguire's, if possible. It will be a trilogy. Th ...

... behind In Cold Blood in my top 5 of 2007. Reworkings of classics is a favorite genre of mine. Although I haven't read Wicked since it first came out, I'm finding this is even better. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire (416 pages) Maguire's reinvention of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was very enjoyable, despite its flaws. The good: a complex, interesting, vivdly interpreted version of Oz and memorable, likable "human" ...

... though, I find that it really boils down to personal taste/life experience. For example, one of my very favourite books is Wicked by Gregory Maguire, which I would consider literary for what it says about children's literature and political/racial issues and for how it says these things. Son of a Witch by Maguire is a good follow-up to Wicked. His Wicked Step-sister is good too. Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell might be a bit intimidating but it's a wonderful book. She might like Sheri S. Tepper .

#27 - what a strange notion. I have 4700+ titles catalogued, but I've read everything you and I share (except Wicked which I only bought on Thursday afternoon and haven't got to yet). The number of books in my catalogue I haven't read is under 100. Discount my husband's mathematics textbooks and ...

... of The Poisonwood Bible, but once (not to give too much away) there was less family interaction, I was less into it. And Wicked seems to be one in which one prefers either the first half or the second. I guess any book that drastically changes setting, tone, etc halfway through is likely to ...

... was predictable. I have yet to find someone who agrees with me on this onel. And, yes, I have not been able to finish Wicked either and here I was thinking it was just me!

... terrific. I'm sure I'll come up with more examples soon. **************** xicanti -- I had the opposite experience with Wicked. Loved the beginning, but the last half kinda faded out on me.

The only one I can think of is Wicked by Gregory Maguire. Even there, though, I wouldn't say that the beginning was bad, just uncomfortable. I wasn't at all sure about the book, but by the end I was in love with it. It's become one of my top three favourite books.

I'm Ann (thegoodwitch). I've read Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, Lost, Son of a Witch, Mirror Mirror, and Wicked. I really liked Son . . . and I felt it had a beautifully hopeful ending. Wicked and Confessions . . . are my two favorites though. I've been lucky enough to see Wicke ...

... of an Ugly Stepsister was made into a mini tv series some years ago? I found out on the internet movie database. I think Wicked may also have been listed as having been a mini tv series. Anyone hear anything about this?

Wicked seems more 'adult' than Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister but it could just be me. It was too sexually graphic for my taste--the scene where the young students visit a pleasure house of sorts and there's an odd arrangment with two humans and a tiger was just disturbing and bizarre to me-- ...

Hi everybody!! I remember reading a review for Wicked in Jane magazine back in 1997, and thinking I HAD to read this book. I bought it soonafter, and the rest is history. Love Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and Son of a Witch. I have a horrible confession as a Maguire fan, though. I'v ...

Hi, I'm ArmyAngel. I've read Wicked, Son of a Witch, and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (Confessions being my favorite). I also own Mirror, Mirror and Lost but haven't had a chance to read them yet. I'm hoping to see "Wicked: the musical" this April. For a touring schedule, you can ...

... Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister was the first book I read by Gregory Maguire. I had bought it at the same time as Wicked, but a cashier had told me Wicked was better, so that's why I read "Confessions" first.

Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor. Pretty good so far. I love books based on classic stories like this. Wicked was also a great read.

I read Wicked last year and loved it. Not at all what I expected. I would love to see the musical. Do they tour? I haven't read Son of a Witch yet but am definitely looking forward to it. I also have Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister but haven't gotten around to reading that yet either. I'd ...

... by Frank Beddor, about 1/4 way through it. Very interesting premise. I'd like to compare it to Gregory Maguire's Wicked in the way that the author takes a classic story and transforms it into a completely bizarre, yet compelling story.

Hi, I'm Kerian. I first read Wicked in August of 2003. Since then, I've reread it a few times. I own two editions, one by Regan Books (Harper Collins), and the other being the musical edition. Unfortunately, I have not seen the musical, but want to very much. I have the soundtrack, and my ...

Loved most of Wicked and Son of a Witch, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister is my favorite of his books, haven't read Mirror, Mirror or Lost yet. Wicked the musical is coming to Houston (in April I think), which is just a couple hours away from where I live, I can't wait to see it!

I loved Wicked and I had a probably 2 weeks worth discussion on it in my bookclub. I am actually reading the second on as we speak. I have never heard of either of the other books and since Wicked is a hit or miss it would be better to read the others I guess.

... Rising. The first two don't have to be read in order, and I thought the first was entirely forgettable. I really hated Wicked. I mentioned this before in another thread, but I actually stopped reading the book halfway through. I wouldn't mind reading Little, Big at all, but I think I ...

I loved Wicked, found Mirror, Mirror to be sorely lacking, dropped Son of a Witch after a chapter but I was tired so I'll have to go back to it, Lost and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister are sitting on my bookshelf waiting for me.

... most likely to actually read Over Sea, Under Stone because it's short. For some reason I don't especially want to read Wicked, even though I love the musical and have seen it twice.

... began to pick up some steam, (2) Little, big, because I had heard of it and already plan to read it "some day", and (3) Wicked, because I have already read it... edited to fix touchstone reference

Just started reading Son of a Witch, but I can't really get into it like I did with Wicked.

I'll second Tane and go with Over Sea, Under Stone. I've read Wicked and was unimpressed, and Little, Big just doesn't sound all that appealing to me right now. BUT ... as always, I'll be happy to go with the flow because I almost never contribute to the discussions. LOL. (I just like ...

... I should look it up. I was trying to post it quickly. LOL Okay, so it's these three! Little, Big by John Crowley Wicked by Gregory Maguire Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper

I dumped my copy of Wicked by Gregory Maguire in the trash bin. But the one that nearly drove me to drown my despair in drink was The Egyptologist by Arthur Phillips. I love Ancient Egypt and read everything I can find on it. This one I threw against the wall three times! Other ...

... obvious about their loved/ hated books. So, here is my take on the subject matter: i absolutely positively could not STAND Wicked by Gregory Maguire... i really wish i could just be blissfully ignorant of that book and could somehow have gotten a refund on my money (or at least the time) ...

I think I must be the only person in the history of the world that hated Wicked. I don't think I even made it all the way through. I remember stopping at the line, "He voided his bowels," right before... oh, spoiler. I guess I shouldn't say when it happens.

... this year than normal... only re-reads were books I read several years ago that I now wanted to read the sequels (i.e. Wicked, Eragon). I also kind of fudged a little when I got close to the 100 mark and read a bunch of the Lemony Snicket books... they count, but they're so short ...

I really enjoy Gregory Maguire. I just finished re-reading Wicked last night. The only one of the box-set members that I did not particularly care for was Lost. I felt it lacked a coherent plot line and I couldn't care about any of the characters. #7 - let me know when you finish Son of ...

They're probably not all bad. I just didn't want to finish any of these. Wicked - Gregory Maguire - totally unabsorbing On Beauty – Zadie Smith - annoying characters, nothing happens How to be Alone (essays) – Jonathan Franzen - got bored Baltimore Noir (short stories—crim ...

I'm currently reading Wicked by Gregory Maguire and after that who knows. I have quite a few to go through.

I loved The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. It's a great read for anyone who loves books. Also loved Wicked by Gregory Maguire and Aunt Dimity's Death by Nancy Atherton. (The Aunt Dimity Books are a series, so there'll be more to read if you like them.)

Thassalotta books! :o) I'm going to go back and see what Rune had listed in her voting thread last month. I know Wicked was one of them... Oh, and by the way Sabriel is awesome!

I chucked The Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire, so never even attempted Wicked.

... It taught me a lesson, though: sometimes it is wise to trust bad reviews. Count me in as the third person to quit on Wicked. Take that, Gregory Maguire!

I had read Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister about a year ago, and read Wicked only a few weeks ago. I have to say, I found Wicked to be quite dense and much more serious than I recall Confessions to have been! I was actually a bit disappointed that it wasn't more humourous, but it was ...

I have Wicked and Mirror, Mirror, both by Gregory Maguire. Neither book was what I really expected, but they were both interesting in their own right. Wicked was a completely different spin on The Wizard of Oz, and, although it got lengthy at times, I enjoyed it. Mirror, Mirror really never ...

Elphaba from Wicked although she's not quite a monster...

I have Wicked on hold at the library. I'll let you know what I think soon!

I am reading Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire. He is the author of Wicked, and Son of a Witch. I find his books to be a great surprise. Not at all what I expected. Very thought provoking. If you are looking for something very different, with well drawn characters, ...

Just finished The Sword of Shannara Trilogy and am debating on whether to start Running with Scissors or Wicked

Aaaaah, I wasn't the only one to chuck Wicked! Thank goodness. I thought I was a Bad Woman for not buying into its pseudo-political proto-feminist-from-male-POV rot.

This year I've stopped four times. These were the books... Wicked by Gregory Maguire On Beauty by Zadie Smith How to Be Alone (essays) by Jonathan Franzen Baltimore Noir (short stories--crime) edited by Laura Lipmann

Just finished The Greener Shore by Morgan Llywelyn and last night finally started Wicked by Gregory Maguire. Seems interesting so far - but I'm reserving final judgement for a bit.

I just finished Wicked and had to read The Wizard of Oz for comparison. Let's just say I won't be reading anything by Maguire any time soon. Now I'm starting in on The Confusion by Neal Stephenson for the second time.
