Two points only for the content - though the stories are quite entertaining - one additional star for the editor and the beautiful typesetting. Look at it and enjoy the historical stories but don't expect much enlightenment about the 'laws of power'. ( )A great book not because of any particularly valuable insight but rather because Greene does a wonderful job summarizing the insights of others. This book should be read slowly, digested over time. There is too much information in it to be read quickly, in say, a weekend. Read a chapter. Think about how it applies to your life. Try breaking the rule - or obeying it until you get to absurdities. Try them on family members or strangers. I think, over time, you'll see that many of the laws are very useful. I should say, too, that the book is very dry. It reads almost like a textbook. For those that are looking to learn - this is a plus. For others, you might struggle finding the motivation to finish the text. LOVE IT!!!! (Alistair) Anyway, up next in the booklogging is the next entry in the Amoral Series, my re-read of The 48 Laws of Power. (The first of these, The 33 Strategies of War, you may find here.) Let's see: in that review, I think I referred to this book as "a codification of many of the principles of power-use, deceit, and manipulation". Well, it is that. And it's excellent. A fascinating read, well-illustrated with historical examples, and perhaps most important, containing both truth and practical application, whether one is or seeks to be a player, are or seek not to be played upon, or merely delight in watching the Great Game play out. Highly recommended. ( http://weblog.siliconcerebrate.com/ce... ) this book speaks the unspeakable truth about human nature. not for the do gooders sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

The laws cull their principles from many great schemers--and scheming instructors--throughout history, from Sun-Tzu to Talleyrand, from Casanova to con man Yellow Kid Weil. They are straightforward in their amoral simplicity: "Get others to do the work for you, but always take the credit," or "Discover each man's thumbscrew." Each chapter provides examples of the consequences of observance or transgression of the law, along with "keys to power," potential "reversals" (where the converse of the law might also be useful), and a single paragraph cleverly laid out to suggest an image (such as the aforementioned thumbscrew); the margins are filled with illustrative quotations. Practitioners of one-upmanship have been given a new, comprehensive training manual, as up-to-date as it is timeless.
