It took me a while to warm up to this one, and it can't compare to "Holes", "There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom", or "Wayside School...", but the last fifty pages are quite good. ( )

Gary Boone, also known as "Goon," is always telling jokes. Jokes are his life. However, his parents, schoolmates, and teachers do not always appreciate his mindset. Therefore, Goon has a lot of trouble making friends.

In this humorous book by Louis Sachar, 7th grader Gary Boone, is considered quite the Goon in his school. Pretty soon that school throws a talent show and what do you know, Gary signs up. Eventually he quits then signs back up. I recommend this book to anyone who likes comedy and jokes. ( )

Gary Boone ist ein schlaksiger 12 jähriger Junge, der von allen nur '"Huhn" genannt wird und ständigt durch Witze erzählen, seine Unsicherheit verbergen sucht. Auch wenn andere Mitschüler ihn hänseln, hat er noch einen flotten Spruch auf den Lippen und zieht die Situation ins Lächerliche
Niemand nimmt ihn wirklich ernst, auch seine Eltern nicht. Seine einzige wirkliche Freundin, die tatsächlich über seine Witze lacht, ist die 10 jährige Angeline. Als in der Schule ein Talentwettbewerb ausgeschrieben wird, ist Gary der erste, der sich meldet. Er will unbedingt Witze erzählen und fängt auch bereits an sich vorzubereiten. Seine Eltern schließen mit ihm einen Deal, er darf bist zur Aufführung in einigen Wochen keinen Witz erzählen, dann bekommt er 100 Dollar. Gary nimmt die Wette an und erkennt, dass er wirklich keine Freunde hat... er probt eisern im Stillen an seiner Vorführung, erhält dann allerdings eine Warnung, nicht bei dem Talentwettbewerb anzutreten. Gary läßt sich nicht einschüchtern und tritt als letzter Teilnehmer auf. Gehässige Mitschüler bombadieren ihn mit Torten, das baut er so geschickt in seine Performance ein, dass sein Auftritt ein durchschlagender Erfolg wird. Ein früher Roman des bekannten amerikanischen Autors von "Löcher" und Bradley- letzte Reihe". Wieder geht es um einen Jungen, der Stück für Stück zu sich selbst findet und seinen Weg gehen wird.
