It's true that there is plenty of material in this book that isn't new, but it is valuable in that the spread of chapters in here provide a diachronic survey of thought about extraterrestrial life in recent years. There is certainly enough here to motivate the interested general reader to find more recent studies, and to give the historical and scientific background to put those studies in context.
