On a rainy day two bored brothers sit around the house trying to think of all the things they know that are red, blue, and yellow, thus allowing the reader to share in their boredom.

The only thing surprising about this story was the use of rebuses throughout. The rhyme scheme sometimes helps confirm some of the more ambiguous ones. Like, are those cups or mugs? Well, the word has to rhyme with "ladybugs," so "mugs" it is.

Boche Kaplan's illustrations here have an interesting folk style to them, but somehow didn't quite satisfy. Tastes vary, of course, so readers who appreciate picture-books featuring Christmas carols (an annual pet project of mine) might still find it appealing. It is to them that I would recommend it.… (mais)
