Frater Achad (1886–1950)

One of the clearer expositions of the Qabalistic Tree of Life and its relationship to the Tarot. Although much in line with Crowley's 777 and the Egyptian mythos underlying The Law Is For All, it does not align with Crowley's Thoth Tarot deck but references Waite's instead, which could bring some confusion depending on where you're coming from. Still, this work would appear to offer a very serviceable introduction to the Tree Of Life, the Tarot, and the fascinating nexus between them.… (mais)

The Chalice of Ecstasy is an early work by Aleister Crowley's disciple Charles Stansfeld Jones. It does not involve the novel qabalistic doctrines that Jones later developed (beginning in the appendices to the book Q.B.L., or the Bride's Reception). The story which Jones is subjecting to interpretation is the Parzival of Richard Wagner (the "drama" i.e. the opera libretto) rather than the ur-text of Wolfram von Eschenbach. The result is a faithful account of the initiatory path as defined through Crowley's A.'.A.'. system. This book should also be of special interest to participants in Ordo Templi Orientis because of the extent to which symbolism in Parzival is congruent with that of the Order's central ritual, the Gnostic Mass.

I consider this book to be Jones' most valuable published work, and it demonstrates why Crowley identified him as a presumptive successor early in the younger magician's initiatory career.… (mais)

PREFACE

Although the title of this short essay may seem, to
some who have not read its contents, to be both presump-
tuous and unwarrantable, it is hoped that these will reserve
their judgment until they have given due attention and con-
sideration to the study of such an important subject.

We are living in strange times. Civilization seems rapidly
to be breaking up, while yet some inner urge is at work
towards a better and more balanced construction in many
departments of life.

One of the results of the Great War has been to turn the
minds of many people from some of the narrower conceptions
of life into wider channels. A spirit of enquiry has
become apparent on the part of those who had previously
been content to accept statements in regard to life's deeper
issues on mere belief or hearsay. Many new Movements
have arisen under the guidance of people who have obtained
at least a partial glimpse of man's wider heritage, and there
has been a corresponding falling away from what may be
termed the orthodox or established order of things in the
churches and elsewhere.

Szczegółowo omawia ono strukturę, dynamikę i symbolikę kabalistycznego Drzewa Życia, zestawiając ją m.in. z alfabetem hebrajskim, Tarotem i systemem stopni A.’.A.’.. Autor przedstawia w nim również podstawowe metody pracy z kabałą takie jak Gematria, Notarikon i Temura oraz wyjaśnia w jaki sposób za pośrednictwem Liber AL Thelema jest powiązana z kabałą.

Dzieło to jest niezwykłe jednak nie tylko ze względu na swą wartość merytoryczną. Jest ono również żywym świadectwem transformatywnej mocy kabały. Jego powstanie łączy się z magiczną przemianą jaka zaszła w życiu Fratra Achada i stworzeniem przez niego Nowego Układu Drzewa Życia, który zapoczątkował tzw. mistykę Odwróconego Drzewa. Odkrycia jakich dokonał zostały dołączone do tego dzieła w formie apendyksów zawierających bezpośrednie wypisy z magicznego dziennika autora.

Lektura Q.B.L. stanowi zarówno wprowadzenie w tajniki thelemicznej kabały jak i może stanowić impuls do stworzenia własnego systemu. Nauki w niej zawarte, udzielane są w duchu Naukowego Illuminizmu, a wiec wyzbyte dogmatów i sekciarskiej ortodoksji.
