I like Hockey (not my first favorite sport, but definitely top three). I like lesbian romance fiction. Unfortunately in this book the two don't go together well.

It's told in first person by Alison, the coach of the Toronto Teddies, one of the teams in the new Canadian Women's pro hockey league. The book is basically the story of the WPHL's inaugural season from the Toronto Teddies players point of view.

The characters are all interesting and all very unique. Also how they all interacted with each other was unique and sometimes 'awww' worthy, sometimes hilarious, and sometimes depressing.

Unfortunately even though the characters were great the narrative was very matter of fact. Sometimes I wondered if I was reading a piece of non-fiction or fiction. There was no whimsy. It was sort of like Alguire put together a bunch of interconnected events for twenty plus chapters, then Alguire realized, 'oh crap, I need the "romance" part' and stuffed all of that subplot into three or so chapters.

So, I liked the subject and there were scenes and chapters that were great, but over all the story had no flow to it and I never really got into it as I usually do with nearly all lesbian romance fiction. Only two stars... barely.
