The book starts out by asking the reader what are fossils. There is a timeline of fossils and when they were discovered. One of the first important fossil discoveries occurred in 1770 in the Netherlands. The fossil was named Mosasaurus. They are thought to have been large marine reptiles. They likely went extinct 65 million years ago. Their fossils have been found all over the world. The book goes on to discuss the first dinosaur, Megalosaurus, and the man, William Buckland who discovered it. Neanderthal fossils as well as preserving the fossils, fossil DNA and the future of fossils are discussed. There is a glossary and an index in the back of the book as a reference guide for readers.
