Review by Brian Leekley: This is a collection of five study papers on inclusiveness and diversity versus racism in the Lutheran church. While this work is from the perspective of Lutheran theology and traditions, a number of the concepts expressed are thought-provoking and are well worth reading and discussing among UUs as part of our seeking to be an antiracist church. One of the basic concepts is that "racism is sin". (My reflection: When racism is expressed in the laws, customs, and inertia against change in a community or institution, then beyond being an individual sin or moral error is racism a social, shared sin or moral error of which all within that community or institution are guilty?) Another concept is (page 5): "What is most difficult and disturbing is that 'cultural imperialists' are unaware of their racism because they see themselves as transcultural and universal people whose 'benevolent mission' is to aid all others in becoming 'free and advanced' like themselves."

Going through the text, there is much else that is worth quoting , contemplating, and discussing.

This is a gem of a hymnal. Pastors who typically use traditional hymns in their services should have this in their library. You can also contact Augsburg publishing house and they will send you a print-out of the public domain hymns in this hymnal.
