Holli Anderson’s Five Out of the Ashes takes place where book two, Out of the Pit left off. Halli was kidnapped by a dragon and remaining five need to rescue her. This story takes place in contemporary United States and in the Netherworld. It is suitable for young adults. Tasked with protecting humankind and gifted with magic the five teenagers undergo one adventure after the next.

All five of the characters grow throughout the story, especially Paige, who underwent the most. I was glad that Surpy was back. He is always good for some comic relief. There were some unexpected surprises with his character. Brone is pure evil. We find out what he has against the Praesidia.

Five Out of the Ashes was full of unexpected twists and action. Parts of the story reminded me of Harry Potter. I think the series would make an excellent movie. The series had a good conclusion, and I felt everything was well resolved.

I would like to thank Curiosity Quills Press & NetGalley for a copy of this ebook to review. Though I received this ebook for free, that has no impact upon the honesty of my review.

Goodreads Teaser: Their last battle ended with death and despair, but they have no time to mourn. One of their own has been taken and the Quinae Praesidia set out to find and rescue her. In this third and last installment of the FIVE series, the FIVE discover new powers, make a desperate run through the Netherworld, land on an island paradise . . . and find that Brone, always a step ahead of them, is becoming more powerful than ever.

This book picks up right where the cliffhanger ending of the second book left off, with the group not victorious, and even worse the youngest member of their five-some has been snatched from their grasp by a giant dragon. Now they must scramble to get Halli back before they face the deadliest foe any Quinae Praesidia have ever known.

As with the other books this is told from Paige's point of view, though we do get insight into the other characters in a variety of ways. By now they've honed their magical abilities quite well, but they're still teenagers, and some are quite young, not yet even fourteen in Halli's case. This time having Paige narrate the story is to its advantage as the worst of the offenses dealt to them land on her shoulders. Betrayed by a trusted ally Paige suffers untold torments and indignities at the hands of her captor, and things seem dire indeed for not only Paige but the rest of the Five. For without Paige they have no hope of defeating Brone. Actually without all Five together they have no hope, and even together it will take everything they've got - possibly even their very lives, to take down this powerful evil. However before they face Brone again they have to find and rescue Halli. Then they still need to navigate their way through an increasingly hostile Netherworld. Along the way they will garner new allies, and meet old enemies. Enemies that have been recruiting power to the dark side.

Once again the characters stay pretty true to form, showing only minor growth. Given that no time has passed between the end of the second book and the start of this final book it makes sense for them not to have changed very much, yet somehow they are stronger in their magical powers. Johnathan and Paige remain madly in love, though still quite chaste compared to teens their age elsewhere. Thus far they've not made it past kissing and hugs, and that's rather refreshing, not to mention a great role model for the rest of the group.

Along with the consistency of the characters the book also moves smoothly through the various plot points, with the arc of the story being well tied to the actions and emotions of the Five. The conclusion of the story doesn't come as a complete surprise, though there are certainly aspects that will likely be unexpected to say the least. On the whole I'd say this was a relatively satisfying end to the trilogy.

The book begins with Paige. She discovers she has some magical powers. Her preacher dad and mom decide to have her committed. She escapes and goes "underground". She then meets Jonathan..the handsome guy character and he brings in 3 other teenagers in a matter of a few pages in dialouge. Things are moving very quick at this point in the story. You don't really get a feel for the characters.

Enter INSTALOVE yuk.

The teenagers decide with all of them having powers that they are to fight the baddies aka demons, fae, orges, trolls and well you get the idea. Jonathan gets bit by a changeling during a group effort to keep a fae from changing it for a real child. Then he becomes something different.

Our dear heroes are unable to touch or kiss-kiss because the wolfies hormones go out of control if Paige is near.

There is some good dialog in parts of the book and I did finish it. There is a shit load of teenage angst though. I think this book would be sorta well recieved by the younger set. I just didn't get parts of it. Take up for your dang selves girls!!! Don't moon around for a boy child to do it. You won't get anywhere fast baby.

I am reading the second to this series right now and so far it's better than this one. We will see.
I recieved an ARC from the publisher Curiosity Quills..thank you

Did I just read the same author as the first book??

This book starts off with Paige fighting against a incubus..(yes I now know what that is too). Pretty entertaining. This book moves smoothly. The only thing I think this book could have done without is the stupid love angle. I don't think every book needs it and this one gets distracted by it. Yes it's a PG version but dang. I just wanted to smash their smooching heads together.

This book would have actually gotten a 4 star from me if it hadn't had so much teenage angsty love stuff. YUCK.

There is much going on with demons and boogers getting the smack down. Loved those parts.

There is one character in this book I completely went fangirl over. Surpy!! He reminds me of this guy..and I love him.

I think the ages of 11-13 year old girls are gonna flip over this series.

I recieved an ARC copy of this book from the publisher Curiosity Quills. Thank you.… (mais)
