I was really torn on this one. On the one hand, I think what the author is trying to accomplish is interesting and somewhat unique. On the other hand, I think the delivery could have been done a bit better.

I did not realize until the very end that the main character here was blind, and I am not sure if that endeared me to her more, or if it just added to what bits of admiration I already held.

The main character has had to endure tragedy in her life and is trying to find meaning. This takes her on a soul-searching spiritual journey. But the layout of the "diary entries" just seemed a little offputting to me. The other thing that struck me was that for mainstream fiction, it was very "preachy" and that will alienate a portion of the audience, to be sure.

I could not pick up on what the target demographic was intended to be. The main character was 13, which leads to YA, but the subject matter was a bit too heavy for the younger teen to be able to grasp and understand.

The story was well written, well edited, but just was not a good fit for me, I guess. I am sure there are other people who loved it and will sing it's praises, and I will leave that to them. I just was not really able to connect with this one.… (mais)

SPOILERS ahead

When I first saw this, I was thinking "Oh, a book about Angels! Must have it!" I lurrrrve angel books... So yeah, when I start reading this... I'm like what is this all about? It's not the typical paranormal romance book. I don't think it's romance even. I was a bit confused for the purpose of this book whilst reading it.

I'll try to keep this simple and short. I think the main purpose of this book was to enlighten us. Well, it did enlighten me in a way. Knowing what you believe in, thinking if it's right. This book is about God. Not the preaching kind of book nor a bible of sort. It's like choosing whether to believe in God or not. The girl, Florence, didn't believe in God even if she saw an Angel, played chess with it even. She wanted proof... She wants straight answers not reasons.

I guess these quotes would best explain it...

It was true, I wanted answers, not reasons. Answers respond to why, but reasons demand fairness. And I don't believe in fair.

People want reasons that make sense. And that can be a problem, because some things don't.

My mother thinks that if you can't see something, it's not real. But if that were true, my whole life would be make-believe. And here's something else that's one hundred percent true, in some way or another: everyone is BLIND.

It's fun to read this kinds of books once in a while. And I did cry because of this. It's just that I like how she accepts things after contemplating, how she forgives and MOVE FORWARD in the end. It's just the way it is. It's mostly about life and accepting one's mistake. Learning from it and not let it be your mistake too.… (mais)

I grew up in a religious household and, within the past 10 years, "fell from grace". I just had too many issues with the church to continue walking thru the doors. That being said, I LOVED this book! It's a girl's struggle to understand. Life, love, god/God, her mother, even herself. I don't know how to explain it well without giving quotes from the book! Let's just say, if you've ever been at a point in your life where all seemed lost, where you fought to understand the "why's" of the world or if you've wondered if it's possible to have a problem with the church and the bible but still be ok with God, then give this book a read. It's short, but it's worth a read!… (mais)
