A naturalist and ecologist, Apfelbaum was strongly influenced by the work of Aldo Leopold. For Apfelbaum, however, the satisfaction came not only in the observation and documentation, but also in activism. He bought an 80-acre farm in Wisconsin and restored it to its natural state. The book documents his progress, thinking and the context of his work. I found it interesting, touching and inspiring.
