Play Me (A1pha, Part 1, #1)
I didn't like this book but that was probably my own fault for forgetting that I really don't enjoy novella length stories. They feel like they hardly get started before they are over. However, I did find the story line annoyingly vague. We hear that her boyfriend abused her but never get a clarification as to what this entails i.e. physical, verbal, mental, sexual. Decent story scanty on facts and substance.

Setting – California water park, inner city area, current day.
Mood – Things are hot then cold between Rain and Knight, because neither want a relationship because of past issues.
Song – this boy’s fire, by Jennifer Lopez http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaPy7zcNhDE
I enjoyed this NA. It was nice to have a summer setting instead of the typical college town. My only issue was the lack of closure on the several almost rapes. Although – with the short time frame (just a summer) I guess we wouldn’t have time to find out what happened after arrests were made. But it bothered me that nothing was said even after another and then another occurred.
spoilers.....
I liked the ending of this book. It felt realistic. Both Rain and Knight are messed up from happenings in their pasts and both are going to get help. Something they both needed.
I did think the three almost rapes seemed to be downplayed a lot. I guess arrests were made but there wasn't any follow up after.
I'd read more by this author to see if she gets better at story telling. Good start.… (mais)

readingbeader | 6 outras críticas | Oct 29, 2020 | This was one of those "oh wow" books for me. Right after finishing this, I went on amazon and bought the next 2 books in the series.
It's a pretty short book, but sucks you in like you won't believe. The story has a bit of a different twist, in that the female lead is a gamer, who lives (and has a lot of backstory) with 4 guys. Each one hot, smart and totally different from each other.
I really liked the plot, got suckered in to the point I that I had to finish reading in one go. Didn't take that long, because the book is pretty short, but it left me needing to read the rest of the series as fast as I can get to it.… (mais)
