I have now read over half a dozen books by this Author, spread across different series or standalone books. All are well written and researched with superb characterisation throughout. Plenty of surprises and twists along the way, which normally result in my not solving whodunit. Atmospheric cerebral clever and compelling always gripping and riveting from first to last page. This is no exception the second in this series featuring Blackjack a real anti hero of ever there was one, but can be read as a standalone story.
Completely recommended.

I would like to thank LibraryThing for providing a kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is the start on a new but very interesting series based in Singapore in the 1950s. I loved the setting of this book but I did find it hard to connect with any of the characters so I feel like I lost part of the story. There wasn't as much action as I thought there would be, but what action there was I did enjoy.

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher for review purposes.

“Singapore Killer” is an intriguing novel with a well-schooled protagonist named Ash Carter. The book is set in Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia and evokes the locations with enough description to bring them to life. The themes of the story are shocking and intense but relieved with humor in just the right amounts. There are several threads to be unraveled, with mysteries revealed at a few points along the way, and these are handled skillfully.

Love the country of Singapore and love reading the history of the British in Singapore. I would recommend reading all the Murray Bailey books in the Ash Carter series as they always have twists and turns and sometimes have unexpected endings.

This author goes from strength to strength. I have previously read many of his books in the Ash Carter series which I thoroughly enjoyed. This was the first in the BlackJack series I had read. The author was kind enough to give me a link to a complimentary copy of the first book in the series "Once a Killer" so that I was able to read them in sequence. Having said that I think "Second to Sin" would work well on its own, however having the background from the first volume added to the enjoyment.

The protagonist, Charles Balcombe, is an unrepentant killer. He investigates a series of deaths of young women and develops a curious and productive relationship with a policeman, Detective Inspector Munro. This is all set in 1950's Hong Kong.

Mr Murray has a way of making the location an important and fascinating part of his tales. The characters are all well developed and believable human beings with their strengths and weaknesses. You feel like you would want to read more about these people even if there weren't a riveting plot developing.

A completely fascinating story and a gripping read. I can't wait for the next in the series.
