In depth memoir of one of the first women to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The author describes difficulties women had adjusting to all male environment and finding acceptance at the school.

Useful insights into the life of women in the armed forces back when that was new again (somehow the WW2 WACS are never considered soldiers in the modern books).
However, the former didn't go through West Point, so that is indeed different.

Also useful information about Army life in particular, and leadership principles in general.

The prose is basically strung together reminiscences: workmanlike and easily read, but not scintillating rhetoric.

Compare to Stephanie Gutman's "The Kinder, Gentler, Military" written much later.

NOTE: all books written by, or about, any particular identity class in the military have an agenda. Barkalow's appears to be balanced; but, at only 10 years into her career, a slight tilt toward positive is to be expected.
