The New York Times has pronounced Dave Barry "the funniest man in America." But of course that could have been on a slow news day when there wasn't much else fit to print. True, his bestselling collections of columns are legendary, but it is his wholly original books that reveal him as an American icon. Dave Barry Slept Here was his version of American history. Dave Barry Does Japan was a contribution to international peace and understanding from which Japan has not yet fully recovered. Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys is among the best-read volumes in rehab centers and prisons. Raised in a suburb of New York, educated in a suburb of Philadelphia, he lives now in a suburb of Miami. He is not, as he often puts it so poetically, making this up.
Dave's most recent books are "Best. State. Ever.: A Florida Man Defends His Homeland," and "Lessons From Lucy: The Simple Joys of an Old, Happy Dog." His next book, "A Field Guide To The Jewish People," which he co-wrote with his friends Adam Mansbach and Alan Zweibel, will be published September 24. Dave is not Jewish, but Adam and Alan are, so it's kosher.

Fairly obvious jokes in the form of a guide to winning on the corporate world. Decades ago I loved Babies and Other Hazards of Sex, and Homes and Other Black Holes. This book came out in between those two but reading it now elicited just one or two chuckles. YMMV.

I decided I needed to read this since we are seeing the show in San Francisco next month. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed every minute of it and when the book ended found myself wanting to read the next one.

The year is 1901--it's been twenty-three years since Peter and the Lost Boys returned from Rundoon. Since then, nobody on the island has grown a day older, and the Lost Boys continue their friendship with the Mollusk tribe, and their rivalry with Captain Hook.

Meanwhile in London, Molly has married George Darling and is raising three children: Wendy, Michael, and John. One night a visitor appears at her door; it's James, one of Peter's original Lost Boys. He is now working for Scotland Yard and suspects that the heir to England's throne, Prince Albert Edward, is under the influence of shadow creatures. These shadow creatures are determined to find a secret cache of starstuff which fell to London many centuries ago. The starstuff is hidden in an underground vault which has only one key: the Sword of Mercy, a legendary weapon kept with the Crown Jewels. Molly is determined to help, but when she suddenly goes missing, it is up to her eleven-year-old daughter, Wendy, to keep the starstuff out of the Others' clutches. She has heard her mother's stories of a flying boy named Peter Pan, and he may be her only hope in saving the world from a shadowy doom...… (mais)

I think I read this book much too fast. I really enjoyed the story. I would love to read it again and the whole series. Dave Barry is a very humorous writer; I remember my grandparents reading his article out loud all the time.
