This one I am afraid I am going to bail on. I received this in a goodreads giveaway. I love vampire stories, and didn't realize this was book 4 in the series. After I started it, I realized that you really need to read the first books in the series in order to understand what is happening. The conflicts between the dhamphirs and the vampires and the werewolves, I needed some backstory on these. And the hunt for ancient artifacts, what is the story behind that? Just too confusing.

Shifters, manwhores, and baby daddies, Oh My! Big Alpha in Town gives you 3 shifter stories by some of my favorite authors. First up, Bearing His Name. So, whats a guy to do when he finds his mate and also discovers he might have knocked up her sister?! Langlais, in her usual way keeps it light and not too angsty which I appreciated! However, I didn't really care much for Jade or Ark.

Owned by the Lion is up next and again, a bit of a conundrum when a manwhore finds his mate. Keir wants Ally, but she has heard ALL about him and isn't going to put up with his games. My biggest struggle here was that not only was Keir a whore, every time I flipped the page, they were running into an ex of his! So, all the angst came from that drama-llama which I don't really enjoy.

No need for love is the final entry in this anthology and I will give Baxter credit for originality! The heroine is a wood nymph! I think this really suffered from 'novella syndrome' and neither character felt really developed. But, Owen wasn't a manwhore like the other two heroes, so again, bonus points there. Overall, this was okay, but I think it could have been better.

Books by authors like Chasity Bowlin, Celia Kyle, Harmony Raines...then you will probably like Big Alpha in Town!

The Wicked Vampire by Kate Baxter
Last True Vampire #6

Having read books 4 and now 6 of this series my gut feeling is that to truly enjoy the series it would be better to begin with book one and read consecutively. I did enjoy this book and followed the storyline of Sasha the vampire and Ewan the berserker BUT there were many names and couples dropped that I had little or no idea of or how they played into the storyline.

What I liked:
* The bond between the two was unexpected and something they had no control over
* Both H/h were strong characters
* The eventual confrontation between Saeed and Sasha – semi-confrontation
* The ties that some of the characters had with one another
* Ewan’s regard for his cousin Drew
* The growth in the relationship between Sasha & Ewan

What I didn’t like:
* The domineering attitude of Ewan at first
* Fights to the death idea
* Sasha being so “weak” in some ways
* Not knowing who all the players were and how the side-story-threads were to be woven together or who the people actually were
* The demons
* Ian Gregor – top dog Berserker (hope he has a reason to be such a scumbag)

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

The Untamed Vampire by Kate Baxter
The Last True Vampire #4

Action-packed paranormal fantasy with romance, adventure and intrigue – this is book four in a series that includes vampires, shapeshifters, dhampirs, mages, fae and more. Not having read the first three books in the series may have left me behind in regard to some of the storyline but did not detract from the romance between Chelle and Gunnar – a mating between Alpha Werewolf and Vampire. The supporting characters have no doubt starred in previous books of the series or may have their stories told in future books. All in all this was an interesting and enjoyable story and I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC. This is my honest review.
