Nina Bruhns was born in Canada, but grew up in California, USA. With Danish ancestry, she credits her only Hungarian gypsy great-grandfather for her great love of adventure. She has lived and traveled all over the world, including a six-year stint in Sweden. She has two graduate degrees in archeology with a specialty in Egyptology, and she has been on scientific expeditions from California to Spain to Egypt and Sudan. She speaks four languages and writes a mean hieroglyphic!

But her first love has always been writing. For her, writing for Silhouette Books is the ultimate adventure! Drawing on her many experiences gives her stories a colorful dimension and allows her to create settings and characters out of the ordinary. She also wrote erotic romances as Nikita Black. She has won numerous awards for her previous titles, including a prestigious National Readers’ Choice Award, two Daphne DuMaurier Awards of Excellence for Overall Best Romantic Suspense of the year, five Dorothy Parker Awards and two Golden Hearts Awards, among many others. She currently resides in Charleston, South Carolina, with her husband and three children. She loves to hear from her readers, and can be reached at P.O. Box 2216, Summerville, SC 29484-2216.

Cat Me If You Can
4 Stars

Insurance investigator, Kit Colfax is on the trail of jewel thief Remy Beaulieux when she inadvertently arrests his cousin, Simon “Beau” Beaulieux who just happens to be the Sheriff of a small Louisiana parish. Determined to get to the bottom of his cousin’s case and protect his family name, Beau convinces Kit that they should work together, but she is wary of controlling and manipulative men and has no intention of losing her head over one.

An engaging romance with a touch of mystery.

Kit and Beau’s repartee is witty and amusing, and their chemistry is off the charts. That said, Kit’s insecurities with regard to men are overdone, especially considering that Beau is nothing like her former boyfriend.

Beau is a typical alpha male with a gorgeous Southern drawl to boot. He is reminiscent of the hero in my favorite Karen Robards book, Ghost Moon, so it was easy for him to worm his way into my heart.

The minor suspense plot could have been better developed, but the climax and resolution are exciting.

All in all, not at all bad for a debut book and I look forward to reading the sequel.

Sahara gets lost in the bayou and is found by Jacque and Quint. They take her to their home and start getting cozy before being broken up by Quint's wife, Lisette. Jacques continues. He wants her and is starting to feel something, but he won't call it love. Sahara was sent to the bayou to get photos of rare orchids. She shares her dreams with Jacque about a photography career, money, and a big fancy house but she does not share her childhood which makes her want those things. Jacque gets mad as he is looking for a woman who loves him, not his alter ego, Jack Kershaw, CEO of Cajun Hot. Sahara keeps trying to escape but is brought back each time. Jacque is trying to break her down to admit she loves him. When that happens, he decides to let her go. She then learns the truth about him. Will she go? Will she stay? Do they both love each other?

I enjoyed this story. It was fun. It was outrageous. It was hot! I liked Jacque. He did everything he could to see if she would pass his test. He never thought she would have a test. He's shocked that he was outmaneuvered. Sahara is strong. She is going to make him earn his way back to her. When he does, she gets him back. It was so fun to watch!

I look forward to more from this author.

This book was okay, But... According to the back cover, the book was supposedly about Marc Lafayette and Tara Reeves but there were so many characters that their story was not given justice. Not even a third of the book, I would guess, was about them. It was difficult to say whether the book was about Marc and Tara or Bobby Lee and Darcy or Rebel and Wade or Alex.

There were too many abrupt scene/character changes. You were just getting into one aspect of the story when you were jerked into another persons story. Lots of minnie cliff hangers, I guess to make you keep reading. There was never enough time given to a character to really delve into their motivations. I didn't feel that I ever really knew where any of the characters were coming from other than brief stereotypes. For example Bobby Lee grew up poor. Marc has 5 sisters. Tara's father was a stern military type who convinced her she had no worth and her mother died of pollution caused cancer and for some reason Darcy feels unlovable. That's about it for background and there was little description of the characters. Also, inexplicably Alex stays in his engagement with Helene when he seems to want Rebel, etc. Other reviewers mentioned Alex and Rebel as an item but I didn't care about Alex in conjunction with Rebel. As the situation is presented, he needs to man up. Cloudy unexplained motivations all around. I believe the author is trying to write a series similar to Suzanne Brockman's where characters and story line carry over from book to book which is fine but I need to know the characters a little more in depth in order to care.

The supposed heroine, Tara is a bit too wussy. She's a state trooper supposedly good at her job, (which we never see her doing at all), but she lets herself be pushed around. Also, she has sex with the hero less than 24 hours after she meets him (in a bit of a demeaning scene which made me cringe, where she basically lets herself be treated like a piece of meat)for your first romantic encounter, you want a man to respect you it might not be a good idea to let him push you to your hands and knees on a dock in the bayou and f**k you from behind less than 24 after you meet. Total 'I'm a 'ho' fibe. and is madly in love within 3 days. This didn't ring true for me which might have been why I liked Bobby Lee and Darcy's story much better since they had known each other for 5 years.

Finally as to the terrorist threat that the whole story supposedly revolved around, there was no real sense of urgency. The author told us we should care but the suspense was just not there.

So final verdict is that I didn't hate it, didn't love it. May or may not pick up the next one. Might flip through another one to find out what happens with Rebel and Wade. Might not. But I won't be giving it to my sister and reading buddy as a must read.

I enjoyed this erotic romance. I voluntarily chose to review this story and I've given it a 4* rating. This story is not for the under 18 readers. This has some suspense, dogs, and a lot of sexual content. I thought it had an interesting story too, with a different element that the bad guys used to go undetected. Wished that this set of stories gave a chance to read the sweet version. I'll pass on more of this author's work, though. On to my next.
