While this was a great idea for a story, I don’t think it was well executed. The story was choppy and not cohesive. The mother was impossibly overbearing and there were really no redeeming qualities for any of the characters.

I feel like the characters had no real depth.

Today is the NINEth so it's only fitting that I review the 8/20/19 release "The Nine" by author Jeanne McWilliams Blasberg!
.
Synopsis:
Hannah Webber fears she will never be a mother, but her prayers are finally answered when she gives birth to a son. In an era of high-stakes parenting, nurturing Sam’s intellect becomes Hannah’s life purpose. She invests body and soul into his development, much to the detriment of her marriage. She convinces herself, however, that Sam’s acceptance at age fourteen to the most prestigious of New England boarding schools overseen by an illustrious headmaster, justifies her choices.

When he arrives at Dunning, Sam is glad to be out from under his mother’s close watch. And he enjoys his newfound freedom―until, late one night, he stumbles upon evidence of sexual misconduct at the school and is unable to shake the discovery.

Both a coming-of-age novel and a portrait of an evolving mother-son relationship,"The Nine" is the story of a young man who chooses to expose a corrupt world operating under its own set of rules―even if it means jeopardizing his mother’s hopes and dreams.

Wow! What a fast-paced, suspenseful, engaging, story! I couldn't put it down and flew through it in a day and a half! It is very thought-provoking, complex, totally engrossing, and so well written. It's a must-read that does not disappoint! It has a five-star rating on Amazon and it is only $8.90 for the paperback and $10.99 for the hardback, so get it for yourself or for the readers on your Christmas list. Such a great deal for such an amazing book!

The premise is great, something unseemly is going on within a secret society imbedded in Dunning Academy. My problem is when we find out what the illicit behavior is, it was glossed over so quickly, I had to go back and read it again to make sure that was secret. I never felt the urgency or evil that was being perpetrated by 'The Nine'. It was a good story, but I felt something was missing, I would recommend to a friend because this could be my issue and not noticed by other readers.

The Nine is an original story with unpredictable events for the most part. Helicopter Mom, Hannah Webber is a bit aggravating throughout this novel. She wants a child badly, but she is quick to send him off to a private boys school that isn't really within the family budget. Hannah's son, Sam, is a bright and shining light, with a great future ahead, but he finds himself in a very serious situation that threatens his future at the prestigious school he attends. The author weaves a tale of dangerous proportions, and does it very creatively. I was swept into the story and my interest remained piqued. Aside from the irritations that Hannah caused me, overall I highly recommend this story of danger and intrigue!… (mais)
