Una història d'amor, respecte, apropament.d'una europea a l'Àfrica. No he estat mai a l'Àfrica, però amb les descripcions d'aquest llibre quasi que no em cal: s'hi respira la calma, la calor, la tempesta, la por, els animals, les persones, el colonialisme, la gratitud, tot això a un lloc, a un paisatge, a una manera (a moltes!) de viure i d'entendre el món: també a una parella. No s'acaba de saber la vida real de l'escriptora, però sí els seus sentiments. Pura poesia.

Contrary to what my mother remembered about this book, this is not a novel, but a memoir, a collection of vignettes and sketches about the author's life in Africa as a female coffee farmer. Since my mom insists the story is a sad romantic story, I suspect that the book and the movie are not really the same story, and I was rather relieved that the book was about life in Kenya, not a sad, sappy love story. I found it especially interesting that not only is the book published under a male pseudonym, but there are also hardly any points in the whole book where the gender of the narrator is explicitly mentioned.… (mais)
