The author examines some of the most serious problems of our contemporary
industrialized world - problems of overconsumption, adaptation to the
environment, resource depletion, hunger and starvation, overpopulation,
violence, and war. Since tribal cultures managed to avoid most of the problems
that now seem about to overwhelm us, the author compares their solutions to
basic human problems with our own solutions.
