The presentation and short historical introduction to this 1907 railway map are very good indeed but the map itself is a little disappointing. The print quality is poor and, if this is the best reproduction of an original map that was poor in quality, the modern-day publisher should say so. For example, the detailed for Liverpool seems smudged. Nevertheless, the map does give an overview of the railway system in the UK at just about the peak of railway building, when route mileage totalled around 23,000 (with an actual track mileage of around 54,000) including Ireland. Not something that you read, per se, but a fascinating reference work that shows how one could travel by rail in Continental Europe (and parts of Asia, such as Palestine and Egypt). There are also sections describing the hotels and sights of certain areas. One has to say that the tables take quite a bit of getting used to in reading; things were very complicated in those days! For railroad buffs. (Note: this is a reprint of the 1913 edition.)
