About the Author
Dorothy Broderick was born in Milford, Connecticut on June 23, 1929. She received an MLS and a DLS from Columbia University. She started her career as a children's librarian in the 1950s. She was the cofounder of the Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA) magazine. She received the Robert B. Downs mostrar mais Intellectual Freedom Award in 1987, the Grolier Award from ALA in 1991, and the Freedom to Read Foundation's Roll of Honor Award in 1998. She wrote several books including The Image of the Black in Children's Fiction, An Introduction to Children's Work in Public Libraries, Hank, and Training a Companion Dog. She died from complications of heart trouble, osteoporosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on December 17, 2011 at the age of 82. (Bowker Author Biography) mostrar menos
