About the Author

As an innovative watercolor and acrylic artist, collagist, teacher, author and juror, Gerald Brommer is completely immersed in the world of art. His award-winning works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world, and can be found in thousands of private, museum and mostrar mais corporation collections. Gerald is a life member (and former president) of the National Watercolor Society and the National Arts Club, as well as several national and West Coast art organizations in the USA. He has authored and/or contributed to dozens of art instruction books, His work has also been published in several magazines, including "International Artist" magazine. Gerald achieved a B.A. from Concordi Teachers College in Nebraska and an M.A. from the University of Nebraska. He is a popular teacher, known for his creative approach to teaching. He undertakes workshops nationally. He is eternally grateful to his wife, Georgia, whom he met while in high school, and who gave him his first set of oil paints. The information on collage techniques is very helpful, as one would expect from a book about collage. But the illustrations are the book's key asset. These collages are simply outstanding. (Pay no attention to the terrible and juvenile one on the front cover, by Edward Betts. The back cover actually has three much better collages.) If you're an artist of any sort, just flipping through this book for a minute will imbue you with enough inspiration to power your creative process. One of the most essential art books I can recommend to anyone. It proves that collage is arguably the world's greatest, most vital, most expressive, and most dynamic art form.… (mais)

This is geared towards people with art training who want to use collage to make art pieces. It is an excellent sampling of many techniques with lots of pictures of people's work. There is also a great deal of material on design. It was mostly too advanced for my current level of making greeting cards with found images, but it's something to aspire to. You will get more out of it if you have some training in painting or drawing.

This book reviews many mediums of art and multiple techniques to use within these mediums. The mediums included are, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting, architecture, graphic design, and crafts. The book is written in a basic way which is easy to understand. However, it is old and does not contain new techniques and obviously does not explain the many computer programs and techniques of today's world. Therefore, I would recommend this book as a great way to learn the basics, especially in a timeless medium.… (mais)
