About the Author
Journalist and historical writer Howard Bryan began his career at the Albuquerque Tribune and later became a reporter and columnist on New Mexico culture and history. Bryan has written several books on his experiences in New Mexico including Wildest of the Wild West: True Tales of a Frontier Town mostrar mais on the Santa Fe Trail and Robbers, Rogues, and Ruffians: True Tales of the Wild West. He was also featured on The Real West, an Arts and Entertainment program. Bryan was awarded a 1994 Governor's Award for Excellence and Achievement in the Arts and a 1994 Spur award from the Western writers of America for his book The Incredible Elfego Baca. In 1884, as a 19 year-old deputy sheriff, he fought of a gang of Anglo cowboys in a two day siege, giving him a reputation as a gunfighter which he used to advance his career to sheriff, attorney, private detective, school superintendent, mayor and district attorney in New Mexico territory.
