If you have any interest in country music and the women of the industry this is the book for you. There is an UNBELIEVABLE amount of information going all the way back to the Appalachian mountain ballad singers who immigrated to this country from England, Ireland, and Scotland. You'll read about the different eras of country music including honky tonk, rockabilly, old time, bluegrass, cow"boy" music and folk, with almost encyclopedic amounts of information on each and every one. The most important female singers/songwriters of each genre are covered as well as tons of people you probably never heard of but were more than relevent to the success of the whole of country music today. There are lots of pictures throughout and little sidebar lists of song, bands, singers, groups, etc that all have their place in the history of the great women of country music. The book is very well written, with an easy, flowing style that lets the reader just drift from one era to the next, one songbird to another. Highly recommended to anyone with a more than passing interest in the history of country music.… (mais)
