Spring 2020 (Audible Original Dec 2019);

A delightful biography by Molly Burk about her life being blind and about how she's rocking it now, but, also, just as importantly about the low, slow struggle to where she got. This book is a must for thinking about the world from a wholly new perspective, with sight and then without. I love that it starts with "Close your eyes" and ends with "Open your eyes." My heart goes out to young Molly and all she went through, and my respect, admiration, and inspirations toward my future absolutely swell forward in my because of the wonderful woman telling her story now.… (mais)

Short but wonderful. It was enlightening and inspiring. It also made me thankful to be an able bodied person.

Girlie Gushy, but with an important message on Service Dogs
Review of the Audible Audio edition (2019) narrated by the author

Normally I would run the other way from anything associated with modern day "influencers" on YouTube, Podcasts, etc. However, the photo of blind vlogger Molly Burke with her service dog on the cover of this Audible Original caused me to give this one a chance.

Admittedly there were a lot of memories of teenage girl angst and such which was hard to relate to, although stories of bullying will always be cause for sympathy. The story did really take off after about the midway point when Burke started talking about her experiences with her two service dogs and about the stigma that is still attached to these animals in society. There is even an added guilt by association that has built up due to people gaming the system with so-called "emotional support" dogs or other animals. Overall this was still a very educational and inspirational memoir.

It's Not What It Looks Like was one of the Audible Originals free audiobooks for members in August 2019.
