An interesting take on vampires - or more to the point a one-off of them. Campbell's variety aren't what comes to mind when thinking about the usual monsters and they also aren't the ones that sparkle. I would have liked to have seen a bit more lore as to how the species came into existence. That doesn't mean the story was lacking by any means. There is a lot going on in this book- romance - a fatal illness - vampire/human connections - religion, which made for a busy read.

This was my first Christian Vampire book - I was rather surprised the author meshed the two together.… (mais)

If you're looking for another standard racy romance with vampires and a bit of medical drama... wait, is that standard now? Anyway, the concept has tones of Underworld - medical innovations for Vampires, complex relationships between races (human and vamp) - less action than that franchise though. The story is about human girl and vampire grow up knowing all about each other, vampire figures out human is lifemate, human wants nothing to do with vampire. Flirting, sex, medical drama, and kidnapping ensue between MCs. There's also Christianity thrown in.

I have to say I wasn't keen on this book because of the kidnap bit. The whole medical drama bit was good, didn't mind, could have used more of it as it reminded me a bit of Matthew Clairmont from one of my favorite series [b:A Discovery of Witches|8667848|A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1)|Deborah Harkness|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1322168805s/8667848.jpg|13190160]. A really, tiny, nearly imperceptible bit. I liked the MC for it though.

The flirting and romance part expected, but overall the whole book was overly predictable. Don't take my word for it, it's my life's work to study books and predict what the reader wants or expects and I like to think I'm fairly good at it (being a writer and editor).

In summary, it is a book that delivers what you expect for its genre. It's got a great cover and the writing is well done. If you like this genre, you'll like this one too.

This book, by far, has become my favorite vampire lore. I love how the author has intertwined vampires into the lives of humans. I am reminded a bit of the tensions we have experienced since the beginning of time. You are different; therefore, I must kill you. In this world, vampires fall in love with, and marry, whomever is destined to be their life mate. It’s so romantic! It doesn’t matter if that person happens to be another vampire or a human. Vampires seem to be more accepting because they know how special the life mate connection is. Love is love. Most humans, however, are not. Sounds a bit like the LGBT issues of today.

Oh, and vampires can have babies!! Vampires can eat regular food!!! I’m still in shock over that.

This story may focus on the crazy mystery unveiling at the clinic, but there were also undertones of redemption. Tiffany was surrounded by those needing the opportunity to be redeemed. People make mistakes. Plain and simple. Extreme emotions often override reason. Anger, fear, and disgust can lead to irrational behavior. If someone feels remorse, if that person begs forgiveness, shouldn’t he be given another chance to atone? The term “2nd chance” exists for a reason. Then there are the people who show not one iota of remorse. There is no chance of rehabilitation. It’s sad, but it’s reality.

By the end of this book, all questions were answered, yet I was left with a feeling of wanting more. I didn’t want to leave this beautifully exciting world. Hours later, I’m still reminiscing.

I was given this eBook free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Twilight meets Grey’s Anatomy

Romance continues to be the most popular literary genre according to most surveys, with paranormal romance being a prevalent subgenre. Mystery/thriller/suspense tends to come in second. So how could you go wrong with a Paranormal Romance Mystery? With a love affair between Tiffany Peebles, a human, and Dr. Christian La Mond, a vampire, in the midst of attacks by an unknown serial killer, that’s exactly where I’d put Forever and a Night Dark Experiments by Lana Campbell.

The basic romance plot is fairly standard, with boy and girl experiencing a strong romantic attraction, then complications ensue – in this case, the girl feeling she doesn’t fit in the boy’s world and that he deserves better. And the rest of the romance story is them trying to overcome that hurdle. There is additional spice, of course, as we’re talking about a human and a vampire, so we have twice the suggestive scenes, some of which are rather explicit but always done tastefully. Running parallel to this story is a good murder mystery. It’s intense, especially considering the targets of the killer and the author provides a couple of good twists. In fact, for me, this was the best part of the book – it gave the story an edge that kept me turning the pages.

Christian La Mond as the vampire doctor is a bit stereotypic in everything but his species. He’s the ruggedly ‘beautiful,’ transplanted Texan in cowboy boots and pickup truck. Tiffany, on the other hand, is anything but stereotypic. As a self-described computer nerd, one might think quiet and socially inept. She is, in a way, but she also has a temper, is an outdoor sports enthusiast, has a sharp tongue, and is somewhat self-centered and emotion-driven in her initial reactions to situations (later retracting her outbursts). Her maturation is one of the main themes of the story and is quite well done.

There are a few areas where this book could be improved. First, there are some minor editing issues – sentences with missing words, words used incorrectly, and the like. These are, as I said, minor, but have a tendency to pull you out of the make-believe world for a moment to reconcile them. Second, on a more technical level, melding two different genres is always tricky, and there are places where the romance and the suspense in this book seem to clash. Romantic shenanigans in the same setting as a killing spree requires some delicate balancing. There is also some unnecessary repetition and a little tightening of dialog and plot would have helped the pacing.

Overall, if you’re looking for a Paranormal Romance Mystery, with some solid roots in the mystery genre and some interesting character development, Forever and a Night Dark Experiments is worth the read.
