Nope, this one wasn't for me. The first half was intriguing, but then it started playing into itself too much, being overly dramatic and taking itself too seriously.

What was up with the lung cancer thing? Why didn't she freak out and suspect it was true? Why didn't Cara and her aunts think that he was about to die? That was just glossed over.

Trevor??? What about Trevor? Where on earth did his addiction come from? There was no foreshadowing there--it seemed as though he was fully recovered from his injury. And that's how it ends? Um. No. That was way too simple and glossed over. And she was totally keeping him on the backburner just in case. Come on, girl.

And Jase? Okay, I get it, he saved her, they were in love as kids, la dee da. That doesn't translate into instalove twelve years later. Instalove is the worst. It's not at all believable, and to be honest, it was really darn CREEPY that he likely got his book to Cara, knew where Em lived, and basically presumed that she'd fall head over heels for him.

Also, I felt very uncomfortable reading about 15-year-olds having sex. Sure, I never like reading about people having sex, but really? Fifteen-year-olds? Can't we just leave some ambiguity? I do NOT need to be reading about fifteen-year-olds putting on condoms, nope nope nope.

Those were my main issues. Great premise, very poor execution, and I'm genuinely surprised to see how highly this has been rated.

3.8⭐

I liked everything about this book up until part three.

The first part was emotional and hooked me to the story instantly, the second part( fifteen years earlier) was my favorite. I fell in love with Matt and Grace as they did with each other and I loved their friendship more than anything. I connected with young Grace immediately and loved her so much( crazy ideas and all).

Things started going down hill on the third part( the now) where young Grace disappeared and I don't know where to start with the plot, the "surprise"( I'm going to ignore it to keep this spoiler free but let it be known that I hated it!) or how their relationship developed again so quickly it was unbelievable. There was a lot that could've been showed, a lot of things that could've happened that would've made this much better.

Overall, this was a solid second chance romance and although the last half wasn't the best, this was cute, emotional and nostalgic.

Penny is a suburban housewife living in a McMansion and feeling completing unsatisified with her life. On the outside, she has the perfect life--a 14 year old genius who is going to MIT in the fall, an attractive husband, volunteering at her son's school, yet nothing feels right. She loves her son Milo dearly. But he will be leaving soon for college. Penny sits outside of a Subway that used to be the ballet studio she studied at in her youth. She dreams of what could have been before her dance partner dropped her tearing two of her tendons and ending her dancing career.

Gavin has been in the friendzone since shortly after he and Penny participated in a psych study to help out Penny's best friend Ling. Gavin and Penny were blindfolded and asked to kiss to determine whether people can have chemistry without the physical attraction. Gavin asked Penny out immediately after the study but Penny needed to focus on her studies and dancing. But a decision Penny made her senior year changed their relationship.

Gavin has always loved Penny even after the decision she made that changed their relationship. Now, the table have turned. It's Gavin's turn to decide whether their relationship can be pursued or if they will forever be stuck in the friendzone with each other even though they both have incedible chemistry together. But horrible timing. Will Penny find that something to fulfill the emptiness in her soul? Will Gavin make the same mistake that Penny did 14 years ago?
