I love this saint, also, and loved reading about his life, his charitable acts and his melding of the mystic and the active works of mercy. Late 16th, early 17th centuries, he also exhibited such humility, remaining a lay brother of the Dominican Order, when he could have been a priest. He also exemplifies the struggle of one born of mixed race, culture and economic status.
