Stephen Chbosky

About the Author

Stephen Chbosky wrote and directed the feature film adaptation of his award-winning novel, New York Times bestselling, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. He has worked in film and television, on projects including the film version of the smash-hit musical Rent; the TV show Jericho; and others. He mostrar mais also edited Pieces, a collection of short stories for Pocket Books. Chbosky graduated from the University of Southern California's Filmic Writing Program. Here's what I wrote in 2012 about this read: "Read at the request of Katie, who felt the book dealt well with the trials and tribulations of high school. Well, it did have drugs, alcohol, sex, homosexuality, several dosages of sexual abuse of children, teen pregnacy, suicide, and an abortion. Did we leave anything out here?" Quotations in the comments section are my exact kindle highlights.

I think this started off really strong, but it definitely lost me with Christopher “becoming god” and the whole god/devil/eve aspect of it. A lot could have been removed including all the Christian themes and characters - it just felt like a weak explanation for everything.

Other books just seemed more interesting to read, and I got sucked into them instead. Then I read some reviews that said this book was "Christian fiction", and since I'm 100% anti-religion, that cemented my decision to add this to the DNF pile.

The perks of being a wallflower por Stephen Chbosky

I didn't want to read this book. I had heard a lot about it ages ago when the movie was coming out. I had heard how amazing it was and saw how people were really excited about the movie. So, back then, I watched the movie.
And, I thought, that's it? I don't remember anything about the movie other than being super underwhelmed.
Well, the book is a different thing altogether (as usual) and because I was lazy about getting it to read for book club I ended up only being able to get the audiobook if I wanted to be done in time.
I HIGHLY SUGGEST THE AUDIO BOOK.
WOW, just WOW. The person they had reading this really made the book for me. It also didn't hurt that it took place in 1992ish and I graduated high school in 1993 - for sure that helped me be drawn into it as well as just how high school it was.
Fantastic book - I almost want to listen again.… (mais)
