Bit of an odd premise but if you accept that then it all follows more or less believably. I've not read the first book so I don't quite no how much setting up was given, but by now our heroine is an established assassin with a cover career as a business consultant. She also teaches self-defense at the local gym. Having successfully completed some previous cases she's comfortably off, but after a while starts to get itchy feelings again, and so looks up the local darknet for jobs in her specialty fields. Very quickly she sees a customer is looking for a hit on a woman not too far away. This is an easy job and she manages to ensure the children aren't present. However the victim reveals that her boss (who's contracted the hit) had been trafficking young girls, and so suddenly there's a great deal more work involved.

The balance between the job and the home-life was well managed with I presume (hope) a degree of continuity through the series. However the whole assassin thing seems somewhat unlikely, I'm more curious about how she ended up in that career than any of the actual details of the jobs so far. That there's a whole darknet community out there supporting such things seems more reasonable, although trust is not so easily bought.

In the end I can barely remember any of the character names so it didn't make that much impression and I'll pass on reading the rest.

Conflict of Interest by Lauryn Christopher is a well organized, thrilling read. We meet Meg Harrison who is not your every day assassin. She may have trust issues or bad experiences that fuel her fire like many stereotypical assassins but there are many things that set Meg apart from the pack. Instead of doing everything she can to be nonexistent when it comes to her illegal activities, Meg takes a more direct approach and hides in plain sight. Working a normal job, she has done very well for herself on all accounts - business and hitman jobs alike. With a great ability to remain calm and collect, Meg's life is sent for a loop when she finds out that her next paid target is not just a random stranger but a sister that not only bares a remarkable likeness to her but that she never knew existed. Meg must use all of the skills she possesses to save not only her sister, but herself as well.

Being in first person, we are able to get a great glimpse of the thoughts and emotions that Meg is experiencing. What it's like to put your dreams on hold for someone only to be thrown to the side. Finding out that you have a sister that you never knew about. Running a highly successful and legitimate business that can only go up. Not to mention being very thorough and professional about covering your tracks. The details that Ms. Christopher describes in Conflict of Interest make the story believable and a pleasure to read.
