Cieradkowski tells fascinating stories of the obscure players of the past (bush leaguers, could-have-beens, bad guys, oddballs, international legends, overlooked Negro League stars, and more), and illustrates them with his distinctive, evocative artwork and vintage-style baseball cards that virtually ooze nostalgia. This book should be in any baseball fan's library. It covers many legendary characters of baseball from a quirky perspective and uncovers many, many more unknown players from the semi-pro ranks through the minors to Japanese, Cuban, Mexican and Puerto Rican baseball. A simply marvelous read.
