This was my textbook in the early 1970's for an introductory printing class. This book, along with Practice of Printing and American Metal Typefaces of the Twentieth Century, it is one of thee books I consider to be mission-critical/essential for any print shop. If you have some type, some paper and some ink, all you need is this book and you could start to print at a basic level. If some day society collapses (which it might), a single copy of this book could enable future societies to reverse-engineer most of our basic printing technologies, as it is just that comprehensive. This is the hardcover version printed in 1963. As such, it is quite difficult to find these days, though later soft-cover editions are still in print.
