Chance meeting reunites high school sweethearts 10 years later. I love a good second chance story and this is a really good second chance story. There were a lot of hurt feelings and conflicting ideas of what a happy life looked like. Although not a perfectly smooth path, I really appreciated they way the characters behaved like actual adults. Talking out their issues and not hiding things for no good reason.

Narration was really good. Both Maxine Mitchell and Christian Fox are always fantastic and this book is no exception.

GAWD, I CRIRED ALL THE WAY THROUGH THIS BOOK!! What I wouldn't give to have a best friend like Christian Gallagher. I respected that when the when they were in school, they were the best of friends until Christian moved to California to become a heart surgeon and Meadow studied to become a nurse practitioner then was swept off her feet by a hockey player, they eloped much to her families disappointment. She learned that he had been seeing a woman from Canada and caught them in his hotel bed! Christian found out and returned to helped her heal and decided to apply for positions in New York to be by her side. THIS BOOK CERTAINLY HAD ME CRYING AND I WANT TO READ MORE FROM THIS AUTHOR!!… (mais)

I had to mull this one over for a day to think about how I wanted to rate this. I love this author but struggled with connecting to the story or characters the way that I wanted to in this story. It is Mafia but not dark mafia if that makes sense. The storyline was interesting but I found myself wanting it to be a little more plausible (such as how everything was hunky-dory in regard to what Jesse really does and what his sole purpose was in the first place) and also have a bit more suspense.

The parts of the story that I did like were the characters but still struggled with accepting that their lives could really mesh the way that the author intended. The story had potential but fell short for me. I would rank this a 3.5 but because I did like the characters and appreciate the author and her hard work in creating this story I am rounding up to a 4.… (mais)
