This was a cute early chapter book that has Christian values and some spiritual references. Cole really wants a puppy for Christmas. When he and his brother Caleb are at the mall, one of the puppies from the pet store escapes and runs out into the mall. With many people in pursuit, Cole catches the puppy. He really wants this dog for Christmas, but his uncle gets him a pot-bellied pig instead. he is disappointed. When he is given the opportunity to earn money to buy the puppy for himself by working at the pet store, he jumps at the opportunity. Friendship with Rachel, a girl who's father was killed in Afghanistan develops and he proves he is a real true friend. A cute story about working for what you want, having faith in God and being a good friend. This would be a great book for any Christian School or Church library.

I received a copy of this book from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book. I sat and read it in less than thirty minutes. I liked how the author showed the older brother taking responsibility for his younger brother. She also showed that the older brother could be a little irresponsible when distracted. All of the characters were believable. The situations such as bullying, standing up for others. Giving to others by making a personal sacrifice are lessons I want my students to learn. Both Rachel and Cole and his brother Caleb had hardships when it came to their parents. I won't tell what it is because I don't want to spoil it.

I read a review that said this book would be great for a Christian school or library. I find it perfect for a public school because students will be able to relate to the message. I also love that my Christian students will be able to find books their parents will approve of them reading. I loved the Christian message presented, yet not crammed down the reader's throat. I finished the book and took it in to my mother and told her she had to read the book. I gave her just enough info she started thinking about who we knew that would love a copy of this book. I will enjoy putting this on my school shelves and recommending it to all of my students.
I received a copy to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Cole's Perfect Puppy by Frances M. Crossno is a Christian novel for young readers ages six to twelve. I gave it four stars. It teaches lessons about love, friendship & sacrifice.

Cole wanted a puppy. For Christmas his Uncle bought him a potbellied pig. He went to work at a mall store to earn money to get his puppy. He then used his money to get a kitten for Rachel, a friend who's father had been killed in military service. He gave the pig to his brother Caleb.

I received a complimentary kindle copy from First Edition Design Publishing & NetGalley. That did not change my opinion for this review.… (mais)
