Ed Culberson rode (and dragged, and winched) his BMW motorcycle through the 80-mile gap between Panama and Columbia to prove that it could be done. It's a modern tale of heroism and adventure.
I'm still conflicted if Ed Culberson should have revealed this earlier, the fact that all of his notes were stolen near the end of the trip, making the book a monument to reconstruction , but how crazy is that! I think the process of documenting and writing these kinds of books is very interesting, and that was the first time I've come across an author who had that happen. It nearly happened to Paul Theroux in Dark Star Safari, but he got lucky.
Obsession is the right word for Ed Culberson's pursuit and achievement. A great read about an area of the world that is still a challenge that most Pan American treks avoid.… (mais)
