This book has an interesting premise: it's subtitle is "How to Handle Rejection." I stood in the book store and read the whole preface, which tells of an experience the author had. As a seven-year-old, he came up against a teacher he rubbed the wrong way for some reason or other - he never did figure out why. Miss Phillips was to make the year miserable for him by constantly criticizing his work, his habits, his looks, and finally telling him he would never amount to anything in the world, ever! She was wrong, of course. The book sounded so fascinating I bought it.
The following chapters turned out to be little mini-essays covering the basic principles of how to handle rejection, put-downs and criticism in your life. If you would like to have a guide for getting out of the doldrums and gaining some confidence in yourself, this might be just the book for you. But, being a self-help type of book, and not an autobiography, it never finished the story satisfactorily for me. Oh, well!
